Is this your first whelping and do you have someone around to help you? You'll need an assistant as you'll be in poo hell when the pups are 7 weeks old. Those little buggers can run a person into the ground trying to keep the pen clean! Load up on the vitamins, your going to be a busy woman. You'll get support her but see if you can find a local mentor and make sure your bet takes emergency calls.
Thanks Tami for your wisdom for her, I was trying to get more info from her to help us here to help her. I thought that her Yorkies was a little old to be breeding, just wasn't sure and didn't want to say it without knowing, but you have said it now so I know.

I don't want to scare the new comers off here at YT but breeders do need more info to go on to help them.

And you of all people should know about the "Poop Hell" cracked me up when I read that. It is Poop Hell when you have 6 or 7 puppies all at the same time in the same playpen trying to keep clean and as fast as you put the newspaper down or puppy pads they tear them to shreads on you. Then you turn around and clean up again for they didn't hit the paper with their poo.

I don't think new comers fully understand what they are getting their selves into when it comes to breeding, it's not as easy as they think or read about. I do wish her luck tho.

How is your babies doing and Remi? Good I hope. Did you ever catch up on any rest? Did you post photos anywhere of all 4 of your babies? Lee

My only question at this time is whether we bred her too soon. She was on day 10-13 yesterday, and we had already had two short ties last week. I've always relied primarily on the dogs themselves to decide when it is time, although I keep track of the cycle days too. Maybe Jersey was just jumping the gun. And if so, shouldn't we breed her again to make sure she was ovulating and we get puppies? I've never had a breeding that didn't result in puppies before.... hmmmm. What do you think?
I just wanted to say I'm glad your gal is doing better, I wouldn't know what to do if that happened to me. Lee

It does sound like you might have started early. The sperm lives 5 to 7 days so even if she is not quite ready she should still get pregnant.

I forgot about posting in the nursery, I guess I should. Remi and pups are doing great! Everyone is nursing and gaining. Remi's temp is good and she got breakfast in bed this morning. I fell asleep around 9:30 last night and slept hard until 6:00. Terry came in and put the pups to bed and I didn't even stir! I never sleep straight through and it was wonderful!! Roxie had big litters and they were a bit overwhelming, I prefer the smaller ones. We've got alot of big litters on here lately so we'll have alot of busy women with stickup out hair!

Nicki I've heard the same thing from people.
But I've also read over and over again online that what Tami said is right.
Makes you wonder huh?
I always thought thats why there always seems to be a runt too.
Until I read different.
Edited to add...I only bred Nala one time thinking if it takes it takes.
I really didnt care this time. Yet I thought maybe she wont have as many pups. as She'd had 7 both times. Well as you know she had 8 this time.
and 3 were SUPER tiny...I cant figure it out...

I don't think I've ever seen an under developed puppy. What would be some of the signs?

The major indication of a premy puppy is the lack of hair. They look more like little rats when they are born. The smallest pups are usually jammed up in the top of the uterine horns but not always. The more pups in the litter, the more likely you are to have small pups.

I'm with you -- stick up hair and saggy both. Its been a week and I just now feel like I'm getting back to normal. Thanks for your help last night, Deb. Glad to hear all your babies are doing well.

Tami, how are your puppies? Do you have to feed any of them or all okay?

I just have to say you all crack me up with your stick up hair comments. I always get a kick out of how we say such beautiful and loving things about our selves and each other. It's good we don't take it to hear tho. Tami did you get a chance to go see Sages' videos they are so cute and she is a living doll in that one. They are all precious to me. Lee

They're all nursing like little pros. I've been really blessed and out of 21 pups I have never had to feed them. Remi is a really good mom.
