| Does anyone have multiple females that come into heat the same time? I was just wondering does anyone have multiple females that come into heat at the same time but only have 1 male. If so, how do you go about that? |

| I think it really depends on how much time you have to spend with them, how many previous litters they've had (and how many babies were in each), and how experienced you are. Since you're new at this I wouldn't recommend breeding more than one of the girls at a time. Having a litter is A LOT more work than anyone realizes until they do it!! |

| It's not all that uncommon to have female that go in heat around the same time...they tend to trigger it in each other...like humans, or so I've been told. I personally would not breed two girls at once...ESPECIALLY when you are just starting out. One litter is a handful in itself...I can only imagine two! And I'll be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be willing OR able to take that chance of unforseen emergency expenses times two! |

| breeding It depends on your time....I have had as many double, triple and once I had 4 (spaced exactly one week a part)...I did nothing for 3 to 4 months, but take care of my dogs and their needs. I could do this because my chidren were grown and hubby was a very positive force in my life while I was trying to establish myself... I had the proper space and equipment to make it work well....I know many breeders who breed everyone at the same time and then have no pups for a year, two, three..that way they can watch them and keep what they feel has potential. I did not breed again for over a year or more and took many months to decide. I know breeders who work and those who do not...it can be done well, if you work, but you need a good friend or family member to be there when you are not..or at least check in several times per day...some times I have gone to check on friends litters, most were fine, others needed cleaning up, perhaps the dam had vomited or had a messy stool and dragged it back into the bedding and on the litter of newborns, found some pups out of the bed, cold, others were in distress, pups caught in the dam's coat, dam was frantic running around the pen...left for 4 to 8 hrs until the owner came home would be a real nightmare.. I have had friends lose pups and bitches while they were out of the house at work, but many more do very, very well with no problems...I will say, leaving weaned puppies without attention for more then a couple hrs is not something that works for me...they need lots of hands on...and with several litters it is impossble for ME to divide myself up enough to meet those needs if I am not there most of the time... Good luck with you decision...and by the way, I used the same male with all 4litters that were bred a week apart...all conceived nice litters and I got 11 girls and 5 boys...AND I never did it again...two at a time are my limit...lOL AND..I have had several whelp the same day... Went to stay in Baltimore to help a freind in our Yorkie club whelp her first two litters...as the first bitch pushed out the LAST pup and the second pushed out her FIRST...what a day...!!! NO wonder I had to color my hair at 40.....LOL |

I think it would take a lot of hard work having two litters at the same time. I no it was exhausting with just 1. I also think that you need to have plenty of space to have 2 litters, I mean to keep the mamas separated. I no that when my Missy had her first litter she turned into a real monster to my other girl. There was no way she was letting her near her puppies, and she would have attacked her without thinking about it. So you have to take into consideration that are wee sweet loveable darlings can infact change into protective moms who will do anything to protect her puppys.

| I have had 2 females in heat at once, and there was more fighting between the two females( I only have the only stud) and then the alpha kept trying to get at the other females pups, they delivered a week apart, around Christmas , no less, and its been exhausting. The plus side is now both females take turns feeding the pups, they get along better now.... I hope that never happens AGAIN!!! Double sleepless nights.... Not complaining......simply stating lives have been simplier one at a time!

| I myself will only breed one female at a time.Pups and new mommas require alot of care and I would just as soon devote all my time to one momma and her litter at a time. |

| Yahtzee and Fancee are both on the 8 month cycle, about 3 months apart. I sometimes wonder if it's better to have them together - like twins!

I did breed two at one time ONCE...never again. They kept trying to take each others puppies and it was just toooooo much work. And one had to be bottlefed.
