Definatly ask about a health guaarantee.....and make sure the parents are on site for you to look at...... lets see,.... i asked about weight, FOOD (find out what food they are eating so you can switch it gradualy) , i asked about the ears if they would go up or not (coz i wanted them to stay floppy ), i asked how much the parent weighed...... i asked SO many questions i cant remember them all!! Mainly, if the breeder is a good one, they should be asking you lots of questions as well, because a good breeder wont give their puppies to just anyone.........

orensky makes a good point about the parents of the dog. Some breeders only have the mom on site (and use a stud) but you do want to at least see the mom and the condition she's in. Also, going to dog shows and watching the breeders show (go to a few if you can), so you know who's been in it for a while and has quality (healthy and up to breed standard) dogs really helps too. You can find local shows by going to the AKC and UKC websites.

Another thing to notice is how the breeders are on the phone. There were a few breeders I spoke to that I ended talking to about yorkies for over a half hour. They love the breed so much that they will talk to you forever about them. I found these types of breeders have been breeding for many years and have true care for the breed. If they don't have puppies they are usually willing to help you find a good breeder who does.

Things to ask a breeder are 1.) about a health guarantee, especially about genetic problems 2.) If they will be willing to take the dog back if for some reason some day you can not keep him. (Most reputable breeders will want their dogs back in a case like that, no matter what their age) 3.) If you can call them for information if you need to. They should be willing to help you whenever you need it. 4.) what foods they have been using, or recommend. 5.) About the parents of the pup, what their weights are, and what their pedigree is. 6.) How old the pups are when they let them go to new homes. A good breeder will keep their pups until at least 12 weeks, and if it is a tiny pup, they will probably keep it longer. 7.) what shots the pup has had, and could you have a copy of the shot record. 8.) If you are near enough to them, can you come to visit the pups while they are growing up so they get to know you before the breeder lets them go. 9.) If for some reason you are leary of them, ask for their vets phone number and if it is all right for you to call him/her and ask about the pups health record. These are just some of the things I can think of, but also expect a good breeder to ask you lots of questions too.
