It seems you missed the part where I said I have the history of Mya's family tree and that of her Sire. I keep in touch with her breeder who is a second generation breeder. I did not bother to register Mya because I did not consider breeding her. I know the people and homes that the puppies will go to. Including my Family Doctor that I have know for years. How is that following the foot steps of pet stores selling puppy mill puppies?????? I worked with humane society and I am a former foster mother to abused dogs, My vet is the same vet that cared for the Yorkie Champions in Ontario and Canada. It seems like I mention a resonable price and everything else is disreguarded. Please don't make assumptions based on ONE part of my posts.

I just want to say this.. I believe what is being posted is and does happen.. this one is funny how you said it...LOL

But I do want to say.. first I have not again read every page of every post..
That said.. I breed.. I do not show... I breed one litter maybe a year.. In the past I have gotten two puppy's. I did not come to YT to sell my puppies for more money. I will not sell on here.. I sell locally only.. so people can come to visit my home, and most important me and my dogs.. I have kept in touch with the owners of the 7 puppies I have had to date.. I kept one as she had to be tube fed.. and we fell in love with our gracie..
I love this forum. Love to read how others feel about different issues.. we are all individuals with our own thoughts on many issues..But what it sounds like here, is that if I had baby's.. I should not share them with yters.. as it would look like I was wanting to sell them on this site..
Now I am wondering what we really can share on here..and this is not directed at you Bamafan... But was your post that did catch my eye..
I am still pretty new.. and still seeing my way around here.. I see on a certain thread that was posted twice about the same thing.. one got good posts, the other got negative posts.. same topic.. so I say to myself what is this.. it is ok for some members to post what ever they want.. then others cannot..

My doc rocks!!! ALL of them!!!!!!!!!!! AND BTW, I DO sell my puppies on here but don't make much money if any because it goes right back into the dog. What's more, I LIKE to sell my dogs here because YT'ers are the most caring, knowledgable yorkie parents anywhere. My babies couldn't be in any better hands. But, I didn't join to sell pups. In fact, if you read my first few posts, I didn't even have a yorkie when I joined.

And I kindly ask you not to make assumptions that because I didn't comment on every aspect of your post(s) that they were disreguarded as that was not the case. Also, please don't make assumptions that I assumed you would do anything but what is best for the puppies. I am glad that you know Mya's genetic backgroud....I would HOPE that is a given for anyone who decides to breed. I regards to my "follwing the foot steps" comment I believe that you stated that your reason for doing several things (pricing) was because that was what was common in pets stores...my point was, why would you try to mirror a pet store?:( :thumbdown

In a nutshell....some breeders and doctors make money and some do not. ;)

I can see if someone joins YT and their 1st or 2nd post is to sell babies...but I would rather get my next baby from a YT'er than anywhere else so I think if any of your have litters, you do post on here. Again, I would be more prone to look at those who have been active members on this board, etc. for awhile and can understand why you would want to sell to a YT'er..you know we're obviously passionate about the breed and would more than likely make a wonderful forever home for your baby. You could always check a persons previous posts also to get a sense of who they are and vice versa...but again, I feel like you should post about upcoming litters or that you may be looking to find forever homes for them...I know some just chose not to do so.

I will never believe that people that have more than one female and breed them and sell their puppies for 1000-2000..does not make any money. If you show them and have to purchase all of the showing fees...etc...then maybe not but for the ones that don't show and sell their puppies for that much....MAKES NO SENSE!!!! Just say that you have 2 females and they have 4 puppies each...=8 puppies..and say that you sell each of them for $1000 ea. You made $8000....ok say that they have a c-section and that was 2000....you still have $6000....You made money!!!!!!!!

I go by the YTCA code of ethics and therefore I do not post available puppies on this forum or online or the newspaper ect.... I also do not say when I'm expecting a litter, I may say something after I have a litter but usually when I mention it the puppies are almost 3 months old. I usually already have a waiting list for a litter.

No, not at all what I think people were getting at. I *think* that people are referring to those who join and their ONLY posts they EVER make is to sell pups. Or people who hijack other's threads to sell their pups. Then you never hear from them again. I mean, if that is the ONLY think you ever post about...it's pretty obvious why you are here.

You however, clearly do not fit that description.

If you are doing it for the betterment of the breed then you have to remember there are shots, food, testing, bedding, electricity, water, more vet bills, tail docking and dewclaws, stud fees, ect....so that amount drops yet again. What if a puppy gets sick that's another vet appt and the gas you have to pay to go to the vet. What if you keep those pups longer than planned, more food, water, bedding ect...amount drops again....ok say you got about 4000 left then with that you have to reinvest in the next litter and pay more stud fees, vet bills and by the end of the year I'm willing to bet you didn't actually make money...

I am appalled at the way that all doctors are being categorized into money hungry people...That really upsets me.

Many doctors don't even make much money. I know a lot of family medicine doctors who work 60+ hours a week and still only make $45,000. They could have become a million other things if they wanted to...Spent a LOT less in schooling, and been done many,many years before. Instead they chose to get $200,000 in debt just to go to school to do what they want, make a difference, and help people.

First of all, getting into med school is extremely difficult...Once you're in, it's hard to keep up...It's not a leisurely road to take, and not everyone is in it for the money because honestly, most are not making that much money.

Also, malpractice insurance rates are through the roof!! Those who have their own practice sometimes pay out more than they take in!

Another thing is that doctors are restricted on what they can and can't recommend because of insurance companies...It's not the doctors fault. Just like in any field, there are some people who aren't going to meet your expectations...That does not mean that they should all be placed in the same categories.

Vets that do not own their own practice make between $40,000 and $80,000 a year. $40,000 is far from a lot of money considering they went to school for 8 years and have at least $75,000-$100,000 in loans to pay off.

Some doctors and vets may very well be in it for money but some aren't. They enjoy what they do. Ellie's vet likes the idea of a non-profit vet office but that isn't something she can do. That doesn't seem too money hungry to me. After all is said and done and the electricity, building and equipment bills are paid and the vet assistants, vet techs, vets and receptionists are paid and they buy the latest and best equipment, they make way less than they should.

I have a hard time believing that Ellie's vet is in it for money. She has even talked to someone on her cell phone for me while doing something with one of her family members on at home time and she was not getting paid for it...


I do agree that an animal shouldn't be spayed or neutered til 5 or 6 months though. It isn't so much that my view is supported by science but I would want baby teeth pulled at the same time and a bile acid test run first. If the bile acid test was abnormal, a liver biopsy could be done at the time of spay/neuter and I'd want the dog to be older...

A dog from a show breeders line will be at least $2000.
If you have two breeding females and one male that is $6000.
So you are already $6000 in the hole and those would be some cheap dogs.
Add $500 per dog to do testing.
Now you are $7500 in the hole.
Between food and treats it costs about $100 a year per dog.
Even if you sold your breeding dogs after they were done producing at about 6 years old you would have to pay $100 a year for food and treats for each dog. That is $600 per dog, so now you are $9300 in the hole.
Then you have yearly vet checks for these three breeders. Shots, bloodwork, heartworm med, flea med, urinalysis... This would be about $225 a year not including dentals.
Now you are $9975 down.
Dentals would be about $150-$200 per dog when needed.
Then you have shots for pups and dewclawa and tails and vet checks.
Then there are c-sections.
What if one of your dogs needs LP surgery?
That would be another couple thousand.
How about if one of the pups has a liver shunt?
You would end up paying between $2000-$3000 for testing and treatment.
This doesn't include toys, bedding, clothes, leashes, harnesses, crates, registration fees, buying more dogs to breed, missing work to watch puppies...
And then there will always be girls who have one litter and then have to be spayed. So it is very easy to make no money.

I would venture to say....the reasons some people become md doctors may vary, but I am fairly certain the reason one becomes a vet...is a love of animals, not the $$.

Personally I have always thought a veterinarian has to be smarter than a MD...a vet's patients can't talk.

the industry right now is flooded with yorkies. have you not seen the thousands of yorkies that are up for adoption now across the us now? there are thousands and some are not getting more than 500 for them. most are poorly bred.
some people cannot even find a suitable home for their yorkies.
take a look at the industry.

That's so sad Lisa. OMG you would very rarely find a yorkie in a shelter here. Its like a big fad in the states to have the latest fashion accessory, and at the minute it seems to be toy dogs. And a lot of these people who get these toy dogs, just get fed up and I guess that's how they end up in shelters. Thank goodness it isn't a big thing here, or we would have a lot more yorkies and other small breeds in the local shelter.

I tried to rescue a yorkie for months but could not find one anywhere around here!

LOL...you just didn't know where to look. However, most rescue organizations will not adopt out to famlies w/ small children and NONE of them are going to place a dog w/out altering it so it can't be bred first. So you may have had a rough time in any case. If you ever want to adopt (or know someone else who does) in the future, let me know as I can definately put you in touch w/ some people who could help you out.:) :thumbup:

Wish i lived near you. :( . I would sooo love to adopt a yorkie from a shelter. I think if we had any over here, I would have a house full. But its a good thing that we dont.:D

I know what you mean about having a house full--I do alot of work w/ the local Basset rescue and it is SO hard to say no to one of those sad faces sometimes.
Wow...that's awesome that you don't have shelters overflowing with unwanted pooches of any breed.
I would consider the lack of homeless pets to be a very GOOD thing.

My friend/neighbor is actually getting a Shih Tzu in 2 weeks from a lady I know who works in toy breed rescue that I introduced her too. In my area, Shih Tzu's seem to be another breed find their way to rescues, paying the price for being a mass bred fad.:(

Oh we do have overflowing dog shelters, am just saying that it is very rare to find a yorkie in them. Actually I went to the dog race track at the weekend, and it made me think about all those unwanted greyhounds, you no after they have finished racing, they end up in shelters. I asked hubby to think about adopting 1, he said I was nuts, that we wouldnt have any room left on our bed.:D . But all joking aside, It is something i would really love to do.

Also a lot of people around my area have, Shih,tzus. the place is overloaded with them. A lady who lives behind me let hers sit at the front door alday long, you know wonder about. And she wonders why it went MISSING.

My aunt is nuts about greyhounds like we all are about Yorkies. She fell in love with one that came into the shelter where she worked. Over the past 15 years she's adopted 8 altogether...I think...

Asking ONE thousand dollars LESS for a puppy is not mirroring a pet store, not selling a puppy from a puppy mill but rather a loving home is not mirroring a pet store. It seems you missed MY POINT.
