My dog Mya is pregnant now for the first time she is 3 years old. I was at the mall and walked past PJ's Pet Store the sign across the window read "tiny breeds" these so called 10 to 11 week old puppies were 2/3rds the size of my grown dog. They wanted $2300.00 for them plus tax; no papers and you had 24 hours to get your own vet check! Given that I can see why a breeder of a show dog would want much more. The demand is there. A LOT of expense goes in to getting a dog show ready. If Mya had a tiny pup, I would charge more because I know her Sire produced a very healthy tiny ill guy. Both Mya and her Sire have health certificates and vet check reports. There is no history on each side from past generations having any defects but she was not registered. So her puppies will not have papers. If her pups are average size and adult weight works out to 5-6 lbs I will sell them for $1500.00 I have promised friends that they get first notice as well as family. The dogs that people are paying $2500. From the pet stores have no history on the dog. Looking at the puppies I would guess they would be 10lbs or more. One little guy had massive paws for a Yorkie. I am not sure if I will ever breed Mya again as she had a tough time with morning sickness, I am cooking chicken and beef for her and she seems to have cravings...lol. She is only half way there and I don't like leaving her alone. A lot of time and effort and concern and vet checks, stud fee and special foods and vitamin zed drinks go in to play before the puppies even get here. I am now in search of a used playpen and yes a baby monitor. After all she is my baby. I am living of a disability pension and going through a nasty divorce so I have no shame in charging my friends and relatives for what will be a happy, healthy dog. BTW my wanting a 5-pound dog had to do with travel, my parents are old and live in Florida, I wanted a dog that would fit under the seat in front of me, and she does in her carry bag. I still think big Yorkies are lovely, I just don't believe in false advertising. |
OK, I understand. No, you didn't say it was a "scam," those were my words. Because IMO, anyone who comes on YT with the sole purpose of making friends so they can jack up their prices, who fool people into thinking they are something they are not, is scamming, IMO. Scamming, being dishonest, however you want to describe it. To sum up my take on it, the people who do make 'big bucks' are not altogether honest, with the dog's intentions in mind. To me, anyone who is breeding with profit as their main priority would fall into this category. And sounds to me like someone you described--who befriends people just to charge more $$ would fit in there. |

but no one will admit that they are here to 1. learn more and 2. get their kennel name/ breedings out. Well, they will admit they are her to educate and learn more but not about also getting their name out. And it just makes me mad to see so many people saying that this or that breeder is great when you can see that their dogs aren't the best looking and that they could have found a better dog with a different breeder. But it's so easy to just find a friendly breeder here and get their dog because of a few references then to go out and search a while. |
I would never sell a puppy in YT. I don't advertise here, paper, online well with the exception that my name is only on the AKC and YTCA website. I'm on my local yorkie club's breeder referral list and that's it. I have only one litter a year and with all my dog show expenses and vet costs and all that goes with breeding and showing what's a profit or even breaking even? I.e. Someone comments...I found a picture of Trixie when she was 6 months old and forgot how small she was... Then comes along someone w/, "It's hard to belive this litter I have will be that big...I can't believe they will be ready for their new homes in just 2 weeks! I just posted some new pics in the nursery." Or someone, in conversations mentions that they might get a new dog in the summer and in comes, "I will have a litter available in the summer..." :yelrotflm :yelrotflm :yelrotflm Thank you Cpt. Obvious...lol. |
