Now can I have a double!! :)

tegamom1 02-19-2008 03:27 PM

I just came in from work..WOW!! Think I'll join you for that double.. Suddenly seen the light and the error of her ways...maybe...maybe not. Something tells me these poor Yorkies need to be bred like they need to be left outside...NOT AT ALL!! Can you imagine, poor little guy matted to the skin. Can't help but wonder if they need to be rescued again and the "breeder" she bought them from also reported.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Sorry had to take a break inbetween giving baths...I know the lady I bought them from gave their own shots so I'm not even sure when they had their last checkup but I have them one for thursday with my vet. and they are all getting pampered with grooming.... I can't wait to see them all shiny and pretty!!! the little male is so matted she said that she would probably have to shave him..I have a question about my little male...I don't want him spraying everything so where can I get the little belly pads?

I sell belly bands. Click on the potty pad link in my signature.

I know of many respectable breeders on yorkietalk that do. For reasons of sanitary conditions for each, human and dogs and others I'm sure. Some of them live in much nicer, spacier (if that's a word lol)accomodations with heat, airconditioner and lots of play yard. than if they were put in seperate place. These breeders have more than 1 litter per year, but that doesn't make them BYBer's or puppymillers. I have mine inside but nevertheless I'm not ready to sit in judgment just yet. It's easy to do when only looking at it from a companion or a very small breeder only perspective.

 Nice to hear a balanced view.

I want money too...that's why I have this thing called a J-O-B. To support my family and my dogs, not the other way around. I heard this crazy rumor once that some people even have two of these "Job-thingys". Crazy, huh? ;)

I have to say though that it is refreshing to see so many people posting so passionately with the best interest for the DOGS as the main concern.

I worked full-time in the corporate world until 2000 then I went part-time. I made the decision to go back to full-time so I could provide and take care of our 4 dogs in the way they should be taken care of. For example, feeding them premium dog food and being able to take them to the vet when necessary. I provide for my dogs they do not provide for us. Please reconsider your plans and how go plan to go about it. Chunk's mom

I agree, and maybe should have chosen my words more carefully, as I am a little upset about the yorkies in the backyard thing! I do not mean that people that breed for money are sick, as we all here would not have our babies. What I mean is if the sole purpose of breeding is for the greed of money, and therefore leaving a yorkie in a backyard, or other conditions that we would not want to be in, than that is sick! People that breed just for the dollar and no care for the dogs are sick!

Most reputable breeders that breed the right way do not make much money, if any at all. In fact, most I have heard from told me they don't even break even.

That's certainly the truth, if I was doing this for money I'd already be screwed.

I really hope this person is telling the truth, but if she is, then I applaud her for being able to take the constructive (and not so constructive) criticism.

I honestly hope you'll have them spayed and neutered and stay out of breeding .

:yeahthat:

If you truly came here for advice, you got it. ;)

Most of what I've learned about breeding (including the fact that I would never ever ever be knowledgable enough to do it), I learned right here on YT.

If one thread is all it took to change your mind completely on where you will keep the little ones, kudos to you!! If not, please please listen to the good advice and explanations here. If the wise people here can also advise you on the appropriateness of breeding these pups, your new babies will thank you for the rest of their lives. You will be welcomed and supported here if you truly keep the dogs' best interest at heart.

I didnt have time to read through all of this, so sorry if repetitive.
Please, I dont know if you have ever owned yorkies, but they are definately not outdoor dogs; even if they were kenneled outdoors before!
Yorkies are very fragile dogs and so much more goes into breeding them than you can even know just buying breeding pairs and not having done research.
If people have kennels heated and cooled for there dogs that is one thing (I wouldnt), but please, DO NOT keep these animals outside!

What did you get

Can you post some pictures and descriptions or your Yorkies? What age are they? How many litters have they had, etc.

You need to set up something for them INSIDE the house. Even if they were kept outside all of their lives does not make it right. You can make it right by being their hero and giving them what they never had and you will learn a lot along the way too. If you are not willing to bring them inside, you do not have what it takes (love of dogs).

They probably need to all go to the vet and get treated for various things. Fleas, worms, etc. and get them up to date on their shots.

Please don't think of your dogs as "breeders." That is such a big mistake. Dogs are man's best friend and we have to treat them like our best friends. Give them shelter, warmth and love! There are many things that dogs need to be happy and it is your responsibility to make them happy now that you have them.

If you do all these things, you wil be rewarded, not only by your dogs. You will earn the respect of other breeders who you reached out to by posting on this site and you will get help too.

One thing that strikes me hypocritical, however, is how so many (not all but many) breeders on here sell entire litters of puppies. What is the purpose of that breeding if you sell them all at 12 weeks? I would think $$$$$. Please tell me why else would a breeder sell an entire litter. Personally, I don't care but then they SCREAM about someone who is daring to say it out loud.

Hmmm.
