1 and a half pounds at two weeks old??? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I have four puppies and they are just growing like CRAZY!!!!! The smallest one is one pound and the biggest is a pound and a half. They just turned two weeks yesterday!!! Is this normal???? This is my first litter and I know they grow fast, but I wasn't expecting them to grow this fast! Does this mean they are going to be bigger yorkies or are they just going through a growth spurt? (They were between 4 and 6 ounces at birth as well). Any insight from the more experienced yorkie talkers would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think for only two weeks, that's a little on the bigger side. Cali was about a pound at 6 weeks and she's about 5.5 lbs now at almost two years old. So they might end up being "teapots." However, I think it also depends on their lines. Some lines grow fast at first and then slow down and stay small. Good luck! I bet they are so much fun!

When I had gracie, she was 2 oz. now just over 4 pounds...her sister was almost 6 oz.. yet when they grew up diva is only a bid bigger then gracie..

Last year it was the same with my boys.. the one I thought was going to be bigger is the one who stayed smaller.. sometimes it is just so hard to tell...

If one is big then that could be why, if they are not bigger, the background could be bigger.. and then anyone can have a throwback..

That does seem a little big for 2 weeks. I just checked and mine have been beween 11 and 14oz at that age- so a little under a pound. How big were the parents?

Mine were 3 weeks old on the 13th and weighed 15.2, 13.4, 15.3, and 14.8 ozs. At birth they weighed just over 4 ounces.

how big was the parents and grandparents? if the grandparents were on the larger size, and yours are with in the standard size, then you have a throw back.

My pups are usually 12 - 16 oz. at that age but my line has big pups, all fat and happy. At two weeks old they are just too young to know, especially if this is your first litter and no precedence has been set.

Mine were at 2 weeks old from 8oz to 11 oz now at 8weeks old they are at
1lb 11 oz.
it looks like you have big babies in your hands but lets just wait and see, some slow down a bit as they grow up and since yours had a fast start lets hope for a slow down, or yes you may endup with "tea pot" sizes if they keep going.

im running into the exact same issue..my babies were 2 weeks on tuesday so almost 3 weeks..they were born 2 & 3oz, smaller then most yorkies is what i was being told. Now when i weigh them at 2 weeks one was a 1lb, 2 at 14oz and 1 at 12 something and the other was 11.02oz...

the birth weight on the puppy chart put them at 5-6lbs full grown now some are arond 7-8lbs ranges, the rest are 5-6lbs range. But maybe they will surprise us.

This is also my first yorkie litter..daddy was bigger 8.5-9lbs and mom is 6-6.5lbs. i know the grandparents on both sides were smaller, so when they were born that small i figured it was the grandparents but now i see it probably the daddy's genes kicking in. So im on the look out for a smaller male now..i gave the daddy to a friend so that i could get a male with better breeding qualitys. i will probably purchase a male end of next month but i dont want a puppy i want 6mo-1 years of age

The mom and dad are both around 8 pounds. The daddy's father is only 5 pounds and his mother is about the same size as him. The mommy's parents are around 5-8 pounds as well. I knew they would probably be bigger pups. I just didn't think they would grow SO rapidly! I just hope that prospective new homes will see them for the dogs that they are and not for their size. Alot of people only want "teacups". I really prefer the "bigger" yorkies because they have less health issues (to a certain extent of course), less problems with labor and delivery, and they are better suited for families with small children. If yorkies were never "bred down" by MAN, we would all have 7-9 pounders on average!

LOL bigger than 7-9..they used to be bred to be a lot bigger, in the upper teens...
