The best place to learn about the breed, meet breeders and decide what your type is is to attend some shows. You don't have to be an exhibitor to breed. You can be a member of the dog fancy, attend shows, study the breed and develop an eye without ever taking a dog into the ring. However I think you will find that once you have attended a couple of shows and enjoyed the comradity of people who share your passion you'll be hooked. I started showing because I wanted to breed well, now I breed so that I can show. Don't just find a breeder and a dog, find a mentor and a friend. |

There is a place for non-show quality dogs, it's called being a pet. While I don't endorse deliberately breeding dogs that deviate drastically from the standard, I would rather see a great personality than "perfect" coloring. Even judges disagree on what the "perfect" coloring is. I agree I have seen Beautiful Top quality breeding here. And that's what I think of them Professional Top quality breeders. And so appreciate the info I get from them. I WISH I could afford one of their puppies. Maybe someday...... Debbi |

I am always amazed at the breeders who don't show, are breeding pet quality dogs with no decent pedigrees, do not health test (yearly checkups like Lady gets does not qualify ;) ), yet sell their puppies for several thousand dollars. I think too many people just assume a puppy from a show breeder will be out of their price range without even checking. There is also the "instant gratification" factor. Many people approach buying a puppy who will hopefully be a member of your family for fifteen years like they were buying a pair of shoes. They get impatient when show breeders have a waiting list or don't plan a litter for several months. They opt for the quick fix, the breeder who has puppies available at all times like a puppy store instead of seeing this as a red flag. |

Well, I also feel you don't have to be considered one of the greatest pianists of all time, for others to appreciate your beautiful music in church and other places.:) :) :) :) Debbi |

true So, very true, but who would listen to me if I study for 10 yrs and still could only manage Chopsticks..LOL ...I respect those who master any art and give them the credit they are due..perhaps, it comes down to some of us want to commit to a passionate relationship with the breed, instead of casual dating... Many, many fine, so called "pet breeders" produce excellent quality puppies, because they have the same passion to commit. |
personally I think people that show are the ones that should breed they have learned the standard and need to improve the line to compete |
My thoughts..... Please....don't get me wrong. I Do believe there are BYB. I have read posts on several forums over and over again....that you cant help but think.....OMG Please dont breed Yorkies. I Do believe there are such a thing as a reputable breeder. Without being in shows. I Do believe there are Unreputable breeders who DO show. I Do not think its right to label those who research...educate themselves and do their very best to breed Yorkies ,as "backyard breeders" I've seen this over and over for 2 plus years on Yorkie forums. Its a slap in the face....and I know that those who do it KNOW its a slap in the face... Then time and time again...They say..."I did not mean to offend" Mmmmmm yes you did........... I usually hold my tongue....As I said before I am here to learn. But I consider myself and *some* others here to be very reputable, caring loving breeders.:) The internet makes things to easy for others to pick on others... Say things one would never say to their face...sad Debbi |
