9 puppies!!! I havnt posted in along time but I had to tell you all about Trixies babies. They were born yesterday morning and 36 hours later all 9 are doing great!!! I could not believe it when she had 9,previous litters have been 5 and 6.She was as big as she was on her other litters but not huge. She is a standard size yorkie, the puppies weigh between 4 and 6 ozs,6 girls and 3 boys. They are all feeding well and so far i havnt had to supplement feed them.My main concern now is making sure that Trixie eats well, but she is been fussy still but hoping tomorrow she will start to eat more

She weighed about 4 kg before she was in pup.The stud is about 3 lbs.i am delighted and I just hope now that they all survive.Trixie is doing a great job but I know it is early days and she has a hard time ahead of her but I will be there to do all I can for her,It would be great to hear from someone who has had a litter this size .I am an experienced breeder of yorkies and cavaliers but have never had a litter this size before so any help would be much appreciated.I will post more pics over the next few days

Wow, that is a huge litter. Does mama have that many teats for them or are you taking turns letting them nurse? Congratulations.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Good question Dee...I know Lexie (and I think most dogs) have 10, but normally the top 2 aren't much good. I know with Lexie's litter, her nipples closest to her front legs were soooo small there was nothing for the pups to latch onto and we ended up letting the milk dry up in those two. So yea, Pippin might have to watch that all the pups get plenty of nursing time.

Congratulations! I would start supplementing in a few days. After they have all had the first few days of milk, I would start to feed 4 then 5 every other feeding. 9 pups could deplete the dam pretty quickly. I would get her on some calcium supplements and lots of good quality food too. Good luck with them.
