| 1 Pup - Socialization My Diva had 1 little precious girl 3 1/2 weeks ago (Oct.18). I have read about how littermates are important to each others socialization/development skills. Diva has been spending more time away from the baby. She does play with her, continues to clean her, etc. etc. and is an excellent mother. Me & my sons spend a lot of time socializing with Duchess, I'll get down on the floor so I can be eye to eye, talk to her, play with her. I've put a couple of stuffed animals & a little chew toy in with her also. My question is what else, if anything, can I do to assist with her socialization since she has no siblings. I also have a 7 mth old, Foxxy, who has also welcomed her with open arms & plays with her. Any other advice/suggestions for those of us who only had 1 pup in a litter? Also, I've trimmed her nails once but that seems to not be enough...my poor Diva has little red lines on her belly...I just don't want to cut her nails too short and it's hard to tell where to stop since the nails are so thin & fragile but still seem to be so sharp. Any suggestions on that? Thanks for your help...I've attached her 3 week old pic. She's 1lbs 9oz |

| She's so pretty, what a dolly. She's still a baby. She will get her socialization from her momma and Foxxy when she's a little older. You will notice it more when she's weaned and after that. Her momma will teach her manners during their time together. When my puppies are scratching momma I usually trim just the ends (the hooks) of their nails with clippers every week if I need to. Then I smooth them out with a small nail file. They protest but it's good to get them used to having their toes handled.

| baby I love "singleton's"...they are special..!!! Some of my favorite companion Yorkies have been "one of a kind". I had play time with mom in the room and the mother always got involved..bring her into the family/bedroom area when you are watching TV etc..my moms would get on the couch/bed and play with them..it was enough. I used to put a dab of honey on the ears and the moms suddenly became interested in licking the babies...any attention from mom is good, even getting your face washed...!!! |

| Thanks ladies...always so helpful. From what you're saying, sounds like she'll be fine. Mom Diva does give lots of attention...just getting a little annoyed with the nails so I'll take care of that today |

| Our Davie had a singleton her first litter. Sonny is such a joy and continues to be so special being homed with my mother. They are such a pair..I love seeing the love between the two of them. Mom was living alone for years before she got Sonny, and now acts 10 years younger with her little boy. This picture was taken after Mom broke her hip, had surgery, went to rehab, than came to live with us to finish healing. As soon as Mom was "home", Sonny NEVER left her side!!! mom is back at her house, and I miss both very much!
