| need a breeder reference. hello, i'm not sure if this is the right forum or not but here it goes, first off i really need a reference for a breeder in clinton TN named Judy crawford, does any one know her? the reason for this is a friend of mine that owns one of my home bred babies, let this lady use her boy for stud to 2 different females, they didn't have a written contract, but the lady is basicly giving my friend a guilt trip for wanting her pick of litter that she deserves since she didn't get a stud fee, this lady keeps telling my friend that it has cost alot to raise puppies and keeps telling my friend that it isn't fair that she asks for a puppy because of the time that she has spent raising the 2 litters. so i guess what I'm asking for is a reference on this lady because I don't know this to be common practice in the "breeder world" and wonder if she has done something like this to someone else and i also want to make sure I'm right when it comes to the pick of litter thing.

| Well it is very common practice to ask for stud fee or pick of litter. Your friend should have gotten a contract would be easier in court i guess she could make her get a DNA done to prove her dog is the dad as for the breeder google her name to see if anything neg. comes up.

| They did have a verbal agreement the lady shouldn't have used the dog for stud sounds like she wants stud service for free i'd take her to court even if i had to get dna done just to show her she can't do this to people.

| No one has ever tried to get out of stud fee completely, but I have had those wanting to keep my pick. I give the option to pay me for the puppy back at a little less than that pup would sell for. I never take the "only" puppy in a litter, instead I ask for a stud fee if they are keeping it, or if they sell the pup I get 1/2. If she is giving your friend trouble, just tell her to not sign the papers as stud. But.... someone not holding up to a deal, may register the litter with one of her own studs or forge your friend's signature. Giving enough time to make sure they are probably registered, contact AKC to see if that female has a recently registered litter, your friend should have female's name and registration number from doing the breeding. Explain to AKC and they should be fairly helpful. If the litter was registered, without your friend, I would report her to AKC. |

| Stud fee should be paid the last breeding date of the female if not before ,if no pups she can refund the money or give another breeding to them on the next cycle. .If she does not want to hand out a pup then ask for the stud fee no matter what the litter cost her. Sometimes litters do not cost much and other times it can be very expensive.I would not feel guilty about it she did her service with her male and she needs payment of some kind ,for her (or his) services. I would not sign the litter app either, she may just sell them without? |

| thanks to all i am still hoping that my friend gets her baby/babies this lady is suddenly impossible to get in touch with. So I'm guessing she will avoid my friend completely and just keep all the babies for her self. looks like there will be another breeder added to the warning forum. People like this shouldn't breed.
