| ![]() I went to Walmart afterwork today. When I got out of my car I heard a small "bark bark". I turned to see a small apricot poodle looking out of a closed window in a small truck that was parked in the parking lot. It had the back slider window opened but it was in the upper 80's here. ![]() Then it jumped down on the floor of the truck and just sat there. I went into Walmart and told them, about the dog in the hot car, at the Service desk and they said that they were not allowed to call the police and I could do so if I wanted to. ![]() ![]() the cop showed up and I explained to him that the little dog was roasting in the car. His reply was .... Well the back window is open and the dog can get air if needed (now remember it was in the upper 80's.... and definitely not a "breezie"day). I said that it was unacceptable and if there was an Animal welfare # that I could call so the person who left this dog would be prosecuted..... or at least given a good talking to!... His reply was "Mam, unless the dog is violent or causing harm, we don't issue anything like that here". then he left....... ![]() ![]() GRRRR.... I waited outside by the truck until some guy got in it... Just as he got ready to pull out, I stopped him and gave him a good "reaming" about leaving pets in hot cars. Well, now I am on a mission. I want there to be an ordinance in this PO-DUNK town that protects animals from being left in cars........ So Where Do I Start????

| ![]() Poor baby! Hopefully that idiot will learn a lesson from the chewing out you gave him. Thanks for being an advocate for all the babies out there being mistreated.

| ![]() They can put reminders out that a crack in the window is not enough and how hot it gets by putting a thermometer in a car to show just how hot it gets. |

| ![]() There are a lot of stupid people like that, and I'm so happy you took some action on it. Find out for sure if there is a law on the books for KY. about dogs being left unatended in a car. If there is no law, then start the process going to have it put into law. Here in CA. it's unlawful to leave any pet unatended in a car or truck. Keep up the vigil. |

| ![]() I'd call animal control. Stuff like that just pisses me off. Sure dogs love car rides but they don't ask to be left in that heat and everything. A dog can die from dehydration and heatstroke in no time at all.

| ![]() Stupid people like that should not have children or pets. I would start at City Hall give them a call and find out what steps you have to take to get an ordinance put on the books covering pets being left in vehicles. Check with animal control and see if your State has a law prohibiting animals being left in vehicles. Jay

| ![]() Pets are like children. It gets really hot here in Texas and I can never imagine or even think about leaving my little one in the car. Although, I am guilty! I left Buttercup in my SUV (with all windows down) for about 2 minutes while I ran into my mom's house to drop off something. |

| ![]() I love people how stand up for animals!! I am sure that lil dog thanks you too. Do you know about puppy mills? If you don't -- and even if you do -- then you've got to watch this undercover video: http://humanesociety.org/stoppuppymills Puppy mills are large scale operations that force breeder dogs to produce litter after litter to support consumer demand for puppies. You seem like someone who wants to fight for animals, and that is so great. If you want to take action and stop puppy mills then go to the website and click on the "WHAT YOU CAN DO" button and then click on "6. Lobby for Better Laws" and that will take you to a page where you can write a short message to your state representative and tell them you want puppy mills to stop and that is an important issue to you. Thanks for taking action and with your help in spreading the awareness puppy mills will soon be a thing of the past! |

This is a great place to start! My mother is on city council and we have warnings about animals left in car on the radio all the time.

| ![]() Good for you!!! I posted a similar thread on YT awhile back and got very mixed reviews about it. I ended up having to defend myself for trying to save the dog. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78875 I tried to find the dog's owner and save them the police call, busted car window, embarassment, etc... and to try to get help for the dog ASAP. Next time I will call the cops or animial welfare folks. Thanks for your post.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() Good for you for wanting to take action. Anyone who disagrees should go sit in their car w/ a cracked window - and see what happens when it's in the upper 80s. I always go to the cust. srvc. counter and say "there is a dog closed in a car - could you please call for the owner over the speaker bc I'm about to break the window. Either that, or I guess I'll call the police" - usually, they're really helpful, it's too bad they weren't willing to help you out.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() THAT SUCKS !! CONTACT YOUR local Paper and news station and tell them what happened - you never know who is an animal lover and you just may touch someones heart with that story - that is against the LAW in many states - it is here in Houston. and Doodle - you shouldn't have had to defend ANYTHING. These dogs NEED our voices - they can't speak for themselves and there are just too many ignorant people out there with pets
