Okay, I have been considering for quite some time to sell my little Izzie. She is the chocolate born to my Emilee and Joey. I was just going to wait until she was 6 months old (because she was so little) and then have her spayed and then sell her. Well, she's just so darn cute and very attached to me. She is 8 months old and I will be having her spayed soon. I just feel so guilty thinking about it. I just don't know what to do. She is just a little over 3 lbs now.

I already love her, I'm just afraid that if I sell her, whom ever buys her will not have the patience for her. She barks her fool head off, was 100% pad trained and now she goes on the pad, on the carpet...I just don't know what to do.

I don't need bashed, I need honest suggestions, ideas, something that I can think about that I haven't already thought of. Would she be able to bond with someone other than me easily? She is attached to me. Loves playing with the other 3 Yorkies, but when someone comes to the house, even though she has met them, played with them (people) she'll come and hide behind me for awhile. I'm so confused, I don't know what to do.

Please give me your thoughts, not bashing please.

Wish I could give you ideas... I know how torn you have been about this. All I can say is you have to do what is right for you. Izzy is just adorable. I know how you feel. You could take her barker out and pee pad the whole house. lol lol (just joking) I'll pray for you that you can come to a decision. Best Wishes!!!!

One thing we have been tossing around is getting laminate flooring. I'm still worried that pee can go in-between the boards. Then I'd really have a smell. I just don't know what to do. I've been thinking about this since the puppies were born and here I am 8 months later and still undecided. It would help if she would stop the barking (a little bit) and start going back on the pads 100%. I'm just getting tired, you've been there, so I know my friend that you understand. You were able to find a good home for Parker, I'm just worried no one will love her and have the patience with her that I do.

For the barking problem try the pennies in a can, it seems to work wonders and will quiet them right away. Also, teach her to bark on command. Once she barks on command reward her. Then have her bark on command and then quiet her right away and reward her big time for being quiet. I know this sounds like you are teaching her a bad habit, but actually you are teaching her, once she learns, that she gets lots of rewards and praise for being quiet when told and no treats, no attention or praise when she barks.

As for the pad training, be patient and consistent. Start back at square one if you need to. I always suggest crate training, it is so easy and it it the quickest and most successful with house training. Always take her to the pad and don't let her get off of it until she goes.

Hang in there, it takes time and sometimes it seems so hard and impossible, but it is not, just be consistent and patient and it will pay off in the end.

I agree with Trixie, our terrier mix that we had was a real barker...we taught her to bark on command and to quiet and it pretty much solved the problem, so there is definitely hope for the barking. Pee pad training, too.

It sounds like you love this little one so very much. Would it be possible for you to keep her? I think, though, if you did decide to sell her that she would bond with someone else. Given her shy personality it might take a little time, but she'd grow to love a new mommy.

I truly don't envy you this decision. I can't imagine trying to decide what to do, but go with your heart and go with what your gut is telling you to do. Our gut instinct usually isn't wrong.

Thank you, but I've tried all the above. It's not like I don't know what to do, it's just that I've tried them all already. The pennies were working great, but now it's like no big deal to her. As soon as you stop making the noise, she starts in again. I've tried spraying with water, and water and vinegar, to no avail. I've used the sonic noise thing. All three of us have been very consistant with her. As far as pad training, she was 100% from the time she was born until about 2 months ago. I've had her checked at the Vet to be sure there were no bladder infections or problems. She checks out 100% through the blood tests. I've crate trained all my Yorkies and my Golden, so I know what to do there. I've got 3 other Yorkies who are just fine and learned, but Izzie is a handful. I know she is still young, and I'm really a very patient person when it comes to my babies..I'm just tired and I'm really leaning more to letting her go to a new home. It just has to be the perfect home and that's gonna be hard to find in my eyes.

Anyone else with suggestions that I haven't already tried?

Thanks so much, I will try the bark on command one more time and see if it will help alleviate some of her high pitch barking. I do love her, more than anyone could know. She is so funny, matter of fact she is the funniest dog we've ever had. Never a dull moment with her making us laugh. The whole plan was, since she was so tiny, was to have her spayed and then let her go to a new home. Then we all fell head over heals for her. It's so hard trying to do the right thing. I'm also afraid if we let her go, I'll regret it so much.

It sounds to me like you really are leaning towards finding her a new home. Perhaps someone with only one dog or no other dogs would have more attention to devote to her training. You sound like you have your hands full!

Why don't you just start looking for a potential forever home?? It doesn't hurt to see what's out there! And if you can't find anyone you feel comfortable letting her go to, then keep her! You don't HAVE to sell her to anyone that looks at her. Good luck with your decision.

I understand your fear and concern. I'd keep her atleast until you get the barking under control. A dog barking constantly can drive people insane...leading to her being hurt. Does she not fit in your lifestyle? Do you have too many? I understand if you do. I have a male I am selling and he is 16 months old...I just have to sell him. Have held off long enough, that's for sure. The bottom line is that only you can decide. Her barking sounds like a nervousness. The Dog Whisperer (Ceaser) is so good with this problem. I'd try watching his show and see if you can mimic him and get wonderful results. I wish you luck. I can tell you are torn.

yorkie3..my dixie use to bark alot, i used a spray water bottle when she overdid it for no reason, she calmed down alot, now all i have to do is grab the water bottle and she stops.....

You have my sympathy Lottie is a bit of barker and it takes a while to fix she is 1year old and she is still hit and miss.
We are working on the reward when quite we do a little hand signal and she usually responds but if she is out and meets other dogs she is harder to stop!!!
We use the clicker so she knows wwhen she s getting it right.Best of luck

I think you should keep her, from the way you write your posts about her, you sound like a real protective mum, just like a good one should be

I honestly think you will worry for a long time about her and how she's doing etc. No bashings from me though if you do decide to sell her

just seems to be too much feeling in your posts for you to let her go. x
