| We purchased a puppy in May of last year. When we tried to register her through the AKC we got a letter back in the mail stating that the puppy did not belong to the parents or something along those lines and that the puppy could not be registered. Im not really concerned about it so much because she has already been spayed but, it really ticks me off that someone would show me the supposed mom and dad of the puppy... 1. how do they determine if the puppy belongs to the parents or not because as far as i know the puppy was never dna tested? 2. what can be done to the breeder if she has infact sold a puppy under false pretenses? thanks |

| Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | i would contact akc and ask them how they determin this and then i would call the breeder and ask her what is going on? Mabey you can convince her to refund some of your money and if she won't threaten to take her to court for lying and if you have a contract stating that it is a purebred with papers then you have a good case to sue her! the nerve of some people!

| You should have received from the breeder AKC litter registration papers with her signature on them and signed over to you. Is this what you got? If it is - then I am totally confused because with the litter registration papers from AKC they have already agreed that the sire and dam are correct Unless they found out something different was up later after the litter registration was given out. I would call AKC and ask what is up. |

| yes, that is what we got with the puppy...thats why i am confused as well. I think it must have been after the puppy was already sold or something...or...i dont know. and the bad thing is I cant find her phone number to call her. i could probably still find my way to her house but i dont really want to just show up. |

| Donating YT 14K Club Member | Is it possible that this breeder was busted by the AKC and has been suspended? It is also possible that someone bought a pup from the same litter and doubted the parentage of the pup. Buyers of pups can challenge this and pay the $500 to get it done. AKC then will check that pup's DNA with the father's to see if a match comes up. This is really something you need to discuss with AKC.

| Sadly, having papers in hands means nothing when there is fraud or a DNA problem with the sire. ..they will pull papers on litters..we had a YT member who had papers pulled after 3 years..so all the pups from that sire and dam were no good, she hd a litter of pups at the time..she was totally innocent, bought the bitch from another breeder. There is so much fraud in dog breeding, AKC is trying where other registeries just turn their backs.. |

| There are many registeries...more springing up as AKC tightens their regs. CKC can be the Canadian KC which is extremely reputable..they have some stricter regs then AKC..there is also the Continental KC..they are very lax with their regs..you may register a mixed breed..someone with a purebred AKC Yorkie could breed with half Yorkie/ half poodle and register the litter with Continenal...or a cocker and a Yorkie..any combo you can think up. Papers/pedigrees are only as honest as the breeder supplying the information..not all AKC dogs are what the breeder states they are, but if AKC ever inspects and they do more tehn breeders realize.. they will be found out...when an Inspector comes, they will do a random DNA on dogs/bitches in the kennel..not just a stud..but dams and pups also..it better match...that is why many breeders have left AKC..records must be in order..CKC does not inspect or look at records..CKC can not be shown. I think it is taking a chance to pay a large sum for a CKC puppy..if the CKC breeder is asking $500 or so, that is one thing, but I see CKC pups for $3000..makes no sense to me. |
