| ![]() My boy Scotty will be 6 in February. He has become very fussy about his food. One reason is his teeth are bothering him. SO we are having them cleaned in January. BUT he has turned off his normal food. The last week I have been making his food from some of his favourite foods; rice, chicken, pumpkin...etc. I've read and read and read SO many dog food reports that I'm dizzy. I'm looking for a good kibble that will help with diet and his gentle mouth. Has anyone has been done this road? ![]() |

| ![]() I haven't had any experience with this, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum. ![]() I think any grain free food is good (everyone has their faves). I see Canine Caviar and Royal Canin for yorkies suggested a lot. Maybe moisten his kibble up with some water for now..until his teeth or better? Others will help more than this ![]()

| ![]() Dog food is a complicated subject. Many of the larger companies are not using the most healthful ingredients. Try reading the ingredient list on most pet food labels and you will see a lot of stuff you cannot identify. Here is a link to The Dog Food Advisor. It is a start in understand some of the ingredients. You can take or leave the ratings but at least you will have a better understanding of what is in the food. Dry Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Advisor After finding out that all kibble is cooked at extremely high temps at least 3 times in order to kill all organic matter in the food I decided that it didn't much matter. You will see a long list of synthetic vitamins at the end of all the ingredient lists. These are necessary since the original nutrition in most of the foods has been cooked out of it. For foods to be able to sit on shelves for months at a time they cannot contain organic materials. There are other sites to learn more about pet foods if you are interested. I agree it is difficult to make a choice. |

| ![]() I've never had a problem with his food until lately and the vet agreed we should have his teeth dog. My poor baby has such bad breathe, its awful. His teeth just seem to get build up over the last few months. I've tried 3 different foods over the past few months and nothing seems to satisfy him. The more natural the better I say. Better for my boy. Thanks for the suggestions. |

| ![]() Sophie is five and loves her Wellness Super Five Mix small breed kibble for adult health. She has great dental checkups and it's good for her, too. ![]()

| ![]() It is possible that he still likes his favorite food but it is hard for him to chew and may cause him pain. Maybe a quick zip in a food processor or blender and then mix some of it with the yummy food that you are making for him. |

| ![]() I finally decided on a commercial raw food for Gracie. She refused to eat kibble from the time I first got her as a puppy. A dog's body is made to digest raw foods without any problems and all the natural nutrition is intact. If your dog has a problem with his breath it is very possible that he has some bad teeth in there and it may be hurting his mouth to chew kibble. Many people think that kibble is necessary to keep teeth clean but that is not true. Kibble does nothing to keep their teeth clean. You might want to try an all natural soft food that has healthy ingredients until you find how bad his teeth are. |

| ![]() I took him off his original food because of a recall and didn't put him back on it. With some of your suggestions (thank you everyone) and reading a thousand and one pages of dog food information, I finally decided on a product made here in Canada. Gosh it sounds good enough for us to eat. "Acana" is a single meat protein, single grain "LAMB and Okanagan apple" (both of which he loves) It's a little on the pricey side, but I'm more concerned about his health and him eating good stuff. $21.00 for a 5 lbs bag. Really not that much considering he eats 1/2 cup a day. Thank you again everyone. What a great place to meet and get information on our wee buddies! |

| ![]() There is a Canadian made food that we use called Horizon Legacy. My dogs love it and are doing well on it. They didn't have any issues when they started eating it either and we switched them with almost no transition. If it is available to you in your area, I would give it a try. You might even be able to get a free trial package if you ask. Horizon is a small Canadian company that has its own manufacturing facility and uses locally sourced ingredients. You can look them up at: Home Page | Horizon
