I have recently had three dogs that are high maintenance and need a lot of grooming and combing/brushing, etc. (Yorkie - Bichon - PooPom)

So - when I got my Yorkie - I decided to keep him in a puppy cut - always!!!
I do think some of the "semi-puppy cuts" are very cute and may consider this one day.

Do some of you keep your adult dogs in a puppy cut? I would sure appreciate your posting pictures and letting me know your dog's ages.

After our first winter of having to pull snowballs off him every time he went outside, we've kept Eddie in a puppy cut. This was cut to 1/2 inch. In summer, we'll go to 1/4. It's soooooo easy to take care of.

I'm assuming that's your definition of puppy cut, right? I read something else that said a puppy cut is just all one length, short or medium.

YTers have busted my chops for cutting him so short in the wintertime, and I think they're probably right. He seems to be getting colder this winter than he did last. I may have to reconsider his wintertime cut.

Here's a shot of him relatively soon after his last haircut. He's 1 1/2 years.

That's something that's so hard to say. "Puppy Cut" isn't just one specific haircut. Some like longer puppycuts, some like shorter puppy cuts, some like shorter on body and longer on legs...so you just have to be very specific with your groomer when asking for that cut. I typically keep Bouncer in a modified Schnauzer cut where his back is taken down short, his skirt is left and his legs are left and his head is left so I can still put it up. I trim his beard to make it even out. I'll have to try and find a pic of him from last summer. This past summer I kept him in a #5 puppy cut since we stayed at the beach alot while visiting my boyfriend's parents numerous times. Right now I am growing him out longer though so he has more to keep him warm.

A lot of it depends also on how often you're willing to brush your baby. Especially since Bouncer is wearing sweaters and jackets a lot now. I have to brush AND comb him every morning, every night...and sometimes I give him a mid-day workover (and he's not even that long yet!). Now that I've written you a novel. haha Just think about how often you want to work on that hair and how much work you're willing to put into it and that'll help you decide what cut is right for you. Not sure if I helped, but I hope I had some helpful input! haha

AlaskaYorkie - That is the type of cut that I want for my dog. Thank you so much for the picture. Guess what! I saw your picture on another post and have already copied it.

I already have a Bichon that needs a lot of attention as far as grooming goes (and, he's in a puppy cut also) -- so I want my Yorkie to be as low-maintenance as possible.......and, fortunately, I think the short puppy cut is a great good-looking little cut.

I hope I get some more pictures - I would like to see more because Yorkies have such different types of hair and colors, etc. I have no clue what mine is going to turn out looking like. He is about 14 weeks old and his colors are literally changing overnight. And his hair leaves a lot to be desired right now. It's very thin - but, hopefully, it will become thicker as he gets older.

Again - AlaskaYorkie - Thank you so much. Your little dog looks just wonderful - so neat and clean. You have one good-looking little dog!

Yeah, I hope you get more pictures. I think a lot of people here keep their Yorkies with longer hair. I absolutely think long hair is gorgeous, but I can't imagine how much work it would be. I don't comb my own hair that often!

It's a puppy cut for the Beanster!! I think it makes yorkies look so sporty that way

Always remember, hair grows back.

I keep Edie in a puppy cut for the same reason. Snow really sticks onto the long hair. I don't worry about her being too cold. I think most of the insulating factor is in the first half inch of hair. She wears a coat too.

I really like the puppy cut a lot better. I have never liked the long show coat look--the face looks like an old man with a beard. I prefer a baby face more!

Here's Rowdy at 8 1/2 months - he's 10 1/2 months now and we keep him in the same cut - we plan to always keep him this way - we love it.

When I had Chester, I got him a puppy cut. SO much easier to handle!

Also - I think my dog is going to have difficult-to-manage hair. He might have a cotton coat, but is my first Yorkie, so I'm not sure.

Anyway - I think that a shorter cut will be best also - if he has hair that mattes easily.

I am in love with Eddie!!!!!
I visited your dogster page and thougt it was the cutest. He is such a cool dog. Beansprout is at "boarding school" for another week & little Eddie put a HUGE smile on my face.

Yes, we keep Zeus' hair in a semi-puppy cut. I like for it to be a little long, but not too long.

I keep logan in a bit longer puppy cut. I told the groomer no shorter than an inch when I had him groomed before thanksgiving. Here's the best pick I have.

I keep Princess in a puppy cut in the summer.
After October, I let it grow back till May- June
depending on our weather.
