| ![]() There are many different kinds... I would talk to your vet about it, and buy it from them. I wouldn't use any grocery store brand or Petco/Petsmart/online kind. Personally I use Revolution topical on mine, bc it does Heartworms, fleas, ticks, mites, etc. See their website. But, also discuss with your vet, as he/she is more familiar with your pup and any problems he/she may have. Also, you can bathe them 2 hours after application... most others after 24 hours. You apply it once a month and it gets absorbed through their skin into their system. No need to reapply after the bath.

| ![]() Are you looking for flea and tick protection alone or do you need something for heartworms too?

| ![]() Dont get any of the cheap brands from the grocery store, they can be harmful to your pets health. I really like frontline plus, I have used it for years on many dogs (and cats) and it works great. You put it on once a month and after a few days you can bathe them again without issue. This works for fleas and ticks. I use interceptor (a pill) for heartworm but there are some products that do everything in one pill.

| ![]() I have to agree with everyone.... best to have the vet prescribe something. I lost my 5 yr old Sunnie last July due to over the counter flea medication.

Well Were I live in ALberta we do not carry heart worm deseases and such something to do with the climate and such but I am driving across canada this summer and I will be going through like 5 diff provinces and some of them might carry it and once I am home in New Brunswick they might have it to so I guess being protected from everything would be a good thing.

| ![]() I did not know that, sorry! Hopefully someone can jump in who is from Canada... although we did use advantage on our cats for a long time and never had any issue with it, only switched because the new vet didnt carry it and frontline was easier to get then. It is the same as far as application and everything. Good Luck!

| ![]() I presently don't have a yorkie, but do have a 3 yr old lab. Yesterday I applied Vectra ~ this is the 2nd time I've given it to her and she's had a horrible reaction. She "paces" around the house, is very lethargic and just "zones" out. I'm never giving it to her again - obviously it is very strong and she's about 80 lbs. Be careful with that - even though it provides great protection, it is certainly not worth seeing our "Scarlet" in such a state - anyone else have these issues and if so what did you do to replace Vectra?? |

If you put "Vectra" into the search box, you should find the old threads. Did your girl see the vet yet?

Frontline Plus is good. It is not the equivalent of Advantage. Advantage is fine, but doesn't do anything for ticks. Advantix does but that contains permethrin which is a bit controversial. Revolution does just about everything, but many people don't like it because we don't think it does anything too well for a lot of dogs. The major problem is if it's given for heartworms and happens not to work...... A lot of vets are not liking it right now...

| ![]() hi - i just hung up the phone with them - she is a little better today and they've advised us to giver her some benadryl. It's just so annoying because you trust these products that you get from your vet and then she gets like this - i have to find something else ~ but i'll definitely do some research before we put anything else on her. Thanks. |
