| ![]() My little guy is coming home in a couple of weeks or so, and I am unsure about Belly Bands..am I suppose to use them right away? I plan on getting him neutered as soon as it can be done..I guess the band thing confuses me ![]() |

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() People tend to use belly bands as a last resort if they cannot stop their male dogs from marking. This tends to be more of an issue for unneutered adult dogs. I'm planning to get some belly bands for Thor to where when he visits other people's houses as a just-in-case thing. You should be focusing on potty training your puppy for now, and hopefully he'll be so beautifully trained you won't need them at all. Hope that helps!

| ![]() You want to start using the bands immediatley. He needs to be nuetred before the testrome (sp) levels kick in or it will be too late to keep him from raising his leg and marking. Ask your vet the earliest he can be fixed. Thats what I plan on doing with our little Dudley. We will get him in about 3wks. |

| ![]() No, you don't want to get belly bands. You want to housebreak him, not get him used to wetting himself. Belly bands are only used with intact males (not neutered) who mark their territory. Males that are neutered too late often start marking and neutering doesn't stop them, so their owners use belly bands. |

| ![]() I think we are saying the samething. You only want to use them until he is fixed. You certainly want him to be housebroke but until he is fixed the bellybands will help to keep him from marking and it needs to be done as soon as your vet will do it. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() If you get them fixed early enough they never need belly bands. Joey was neutered at 7 months, and never marks in the house. We do use them when we go to other people's homes, who have dogs. Most dogs won't begin marking till at least 6 months, usually longer.

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() sandysbabies, are you saying that you use belly bands as part of house training? You put them on 12 week old puppies?

| ![]() From what I understand my breeder was saying to use them until he is fixed. Yes, she will send a band and little pads home with him. He unaltered dogs wear them when they come in and out of the house. When I was there to pick him out he was already going on the wee wee pad (no band) and doing good. But when he comes home inbetween taking him out or I will use the band. |

Putting belly bands on a puppy is like having a baby in diapers. He will just get used to wetting himself and you will never get him housebroken. | |

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | ![]() i suggest only using belly bands if he starts marking...but not to use it for housebreaking...i think that hurts the purpose of potty training...jmo....

| ![]() If you get him neutered as soon as your vet says it safe, before he ever starts marking, chances are he never will. |
