| ![]() I know there has been several threads regarding "how to get rid of tear stains" but what causes them???? My furbaby is 6 months old and has them. She is on wellness puppy kibble and bottled spring water. Do you think it's her diet? I know she is teething and I think I read this can make it worse. I clean her eyes everyday and she doesn't have a lot of eye gunk, just reddish brown staining. I haven't used any of the products yet but I am considering it. I notice some yorkies have eye staining and some don't. Does eye tear staining go hand and hand with allergies? Otherwise she is very healthy.

| ![]() One of my Maltese has a tear staining problem...his left eye won't fully close because he has a little wart-like growth on the rim of his eyelid (Maltese are prone to these little growths). It has been removed twice, but keeps coming back. As a result, this eye tears more. I wash his face regularly with Johnson's baby shampoo and it keeps the problem at bay. The vet can't remove the growth until it gets to a certain size, so until it is big enough to be removed again, washing every couple of days or so with no-tears shampoo works for us. I should note that I am less concerned with tear staining than with the accumulation of "gunk" around his eye. I try to keep it clean and the added benefit is the reduction of the tear staining.
