| ![]() Hello everyone, I've been looking around this site and its great. I do not own a Yorkie yet but we are considering one as a family pet. We have a Golden that is wonderful but we would like to have a all the time house pet. I've researched them and learned they don't care or I guess are alittle scared around small children so that's why we have waited until our children are older. They are son 11 and daughter 9. I can think of no better way to find out all about this breed than to talk to people that actually have one. I would love to hear from all of you! The pics of your babies on this forum are sooooo cute. |

| ![]() Welcome to YorkieTalk ![]() Yorkies do fine with calm children usually. Sometimes breeders won't sell to families with very young children because of the risk to the dog.

as for other animals, Jeter has only been with my mom's 2 girl Yorkies so I have not a clue how he would do with a bigger dog. Is your Golden good around other animals?

| ![]() Welcome to YT!! So glad you're doing your research first!! I wouldn't be too concerned with the age of your children. As long as they're clam like someone said. Do you know how much interaction time you would allow between the dogs? I would be very wary of leaving them together alone probably ever, because play to a bigger dog can get rough awful fast, even when they don't mean to do harm.

| ![]() Our Golden Retreiver, Maggie, is a very sweet dog and she loves other dogs. My next door neighbor has a Malti-poo and other neighbor has a Yorkie. She loves to play with them and they love her. The Yorkie actually dug under their fence to get into our fenced in yard to play with Maggie ![]() Thanks for all the info! |

Don't get me wrong I adore both Cozy, yorkie, and Lucky, golden. Both of my dogs live indoors with the ability to go in and out as they please. But overall Lucky is the better family pet and "all the time house pet." He loves everybody while Cozy only wants mom and Lucky. She is very selective about who she will go up too. Cozy plays fetch but on her terms where Lucky is always ready to go. Cozy knows all of my friends, relatives, neighbors, and their respective kids but she will not go up to them freely. It is probably different if your yorkie lives in a kid home but Cozy does not. My neighbors kids are in love with Cozy but she is in different to them. She will play with them some but once she says done she means done and into the house she will go. Lucky on the other hand will go through my electric fence is he sees a kid fall off their bike. Lucky loves everyone and would never hurt Cozy. Most golden are very gentle from my experiences. It is usually the little dog that is the trouble maker. I adore both breeds but personally find Lucky to be the better "all the time house pet." Good luck with your possible new addition.
