| ![]() FBI agent who killed Chihuahua gets deferred probation By Wendy Gragg | Wednesday, July 8, 2009, 09:22 AM Welcome to wacotrib! An FBI agent received a sentence of two years’ deferred probation and 300 hours of community service this morning in a Waco court for killing a neighbor’s Chihuahua in February of last year. Lovett Leslie Ledger Jr., 40, in April pleaded no contest to state jail felony animal cruelty charges in exchange for a recommendation from prosecutors that he be placed on felony probation for two years. He was sentenced this morning by 54th State District Judge Matt Johnson for fatally shooting Sassy, a 3-pound Chihuahua owned by Lorena neighbors Amy and Jason Davis. Deferred probation means that if Ledger successfully completes his probation there would be no final judgment of guilt. The Davises, who still live in the same neighborhood with Ledger, said the sentence was disappointing, but not surprising. The dog belonged to the Davises’ 8-year-old daughter. A neighbor testified to seeing Ledger shoot the dog in front of her house with a pellet rifle on Feb. 29. Ledger initially lied to investigators about the dog’s death but later told deputies he shot the animal, according to records filed in the case. It is not known whether the felony deferred probation would mean the end of Ledger’s FBI career. Permalink | Comments (18) | Post your comment | Categories: Courthouse, Police & crime

| ![]() I posted this story because the whole thing just frustrates and disgusts me! Animal rights groups in our area really organized for this one. People with signs at the courthouse and a letter-writing campaign to the judge. Oh man! I'm sad today. ![]()

| ![]() I'm sorry your efforts did not result in a harsher penalty for this miserable guy. I hope they pull his FBI credentials and kick him out on a psych release! That would make the punishment a bit more fitting. Anyone cruel enough to shoot a tiny little dog, has no business carrying a gun for a living!

Once again some sicko get's away with murder! If our goverment agencies don't take animal rights seriously then the abuse will never stop! Put his sick butt behind bars, take away his gun and stick him behind a desk when he get's released, at a lesser pay! Wish I were that judge. It's just to upsetting to read things like this. Animals are a living breathing creature that provide love and can feel pain. Why don't other's see this? WHY? ![]() | |

| ![]() Yes that is terrible shooting a tiny dog! I also have heard in the local news, can't remember when, a month or so ago, a deputy in NC or Va, shot a pudgy little dachshund to death. Went to a family disturbance and ended up shooting their dog. Got away with it. Dog was growling and running after him as he was going to his car. He just automatically turned around and shot it! The dog was seen as viscious. |
