You ought to look into therapy dog work! Test is similar to the CGC, a little tougher but nothing your smarties couldn't handle.

I've pretty much just been taking every class that my trainer offers and therapy dog training is not something she does, so I hadn't really considered therapy dog work. I'll look into it, especially if it's similar to what they've just learned with CGC. Thanks!

CGC is really the best training you could do for the therapy dog test. If volunteering your time to cheer people up with a cute Yorkie interests you, ask your instructor if she knows who in your area provides certification.

There are two main organizations -- Therapy Dog International and the Delta Society. I'm not familiar with TDI, but the Delta Society website has a lot of good information. Delta Society - Improving lives through Therapy, Service & Companion animals

humm... I just checked the requirements on the TDI site and we'd really have to work on 'leave it' which we need to do anyway. The 'reaction to children' could be a real sticking point, especially for Iris. She can be pretty skittish around kids. Something to work on though. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Cool! Might give you some helpful skills to work on. Check out Delta Society too. They don't have a children requirement. Also, Delta at least allows you to hold a small dog for many of the stages if you choose to test as a small dog. You still need a leave it, but interactions with people can be carried.
