| Starting to look... Hello everyone... You all may have read a couple of my posts.. My name is Kathryn, I live in Petaluma. I am 30, my husband is 43 and my daughter is 10, we live in a three bedroom townhouse. I had two yorkies about 10 years ago (one male who I loved dearly and one female who was stolen from me) and am awaiting the arrival of my new lil girl. She will be an only dog for a while, but I am planning on adding to the family.. That is where you all come in. I almost did not post due to the other "Show Quality" post, but here it goes. I will be looking for a "show Quality" female... I do have reasonable expectations... I know that there are no guarantees that a pup will finish, but I want the odds on my side by starting out with a good example of the breed standard. I am going to start private lessons with Pixie ( the pup we are getting on Jan 10th )and hopefully she will do well with my 10 year old daughter, Katie, as her handler. She is very interested in Junior Handling! I am very excited to have this sport/passion to share with eachother. I know that Pixie is not "Show Quality" That really was not my focus when I found her. She will be perfect for Katie to work with though, as its really not the dog they are looking at. I just wanted a companion really, and while I knew that I wanted to show someday, I never knew my daughter would show such an interest! I thought that this would be years off.. But I have decided that I would like to stop waiting for someday to come and start living the dream now... Which means lots of hard work! I can't wait! I don't expect to find this dog tonight, this week, or even this month... What I am hoping to find is a breeder who shows and can help me find the right girl! Even if it is not one of theirs. I would like to work with someone who is willing to take the time to communicate with me and keep me updated on the progress of any pups that are being looked at as prospects. I want a breeder who currently shows and is "in the know" as I am just starting out and won't benefit from 10 year old show talk... things change fast! and its easy to loose touch, I hope I am not offending anyone with that last comment. My grandmother showed as did my Mom, she was a junior handler with AKC back in the day.. She loved it! But a lot has changed since their day in the ring! I am willing to travel to spend time with the right breeder. I would be blessed to find someone local, but of the people I have visited around here... Yikes! I will gladly go out of state! I don't expect to have a new puppy and fully expect a young adult. I am not in any hurry! I will open up my home for inspection at any time to any who wish to view it as part of their decision making process. Thank you for taking the time to read my post... I hope that the breeders on here will take me seriously and really think about helping me find this special girl.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Well, I think it's a fabulous idea! Here is a show breeder you can contact. She has beautiful pups. Once you get into the site, on the left hand side, you'll see a pedigree link...click on that to take you to the sires and dams and you can click on their pedigrees. The reds are the champions. Also, in the News Updates, you can see the stud that has been introduced in her breeding program...he is absolutely stunning! Best of luck to you!

| OK, here's some luck! I was thinking it may be a good idea to take it slow, though, and see how your daughter does with Pixie. Sure, it's fine to look for that future show pup, but don't rush into anything. One step at a time. What if your daughter finds out that this is not for her? You did say you are interested in showing for yourself, so that's cool. I am not a breeder. I expect that there is a ton of work in showing any dog, and I have heard that keeping a pup in show condition takes a lot of time and energy, and money. I wish you all the best in your dream, and good like finding your future champion!

| Wosie's mom... Your right it does take alot of time.... I grew up with family who spent more time gromming their poodles than helping us kids with homework! I know how far they would travel for shows and the toll the hobby took on them. But it was a passion that they enjoyed and even as a child I could see how much she enjoyed it! I beleive that I am taking it slow I am not looking to add another dog to my home for at least 6 months and it may take a year or longer to find the right dog. As for my daughter, aside from the last couple of years, we have always had a dog in our home... She is amazing with them. Yes, I know that at her age, 10, she may decide tomorrow that she would rather chase boys or ride horses... but such is the whim of a child. I will foster a loving and supportive environment for whatever her passion is. Well, as long as it is not chasing boys... lol I also have had a mutipule dog household before and understand how hard it is to potty train when you have more than one! Boy do I ever know this! So you are very right... "one step at a time" and I beleive that this thread is that first step... One of many. Thank you very much for your concern and well wishes! txshopper73 I will check out that link! waistfull I'm sure my timing stinks.. its a busy time of year! Patti It is fun! But so much work... I really am looking forward to it! I am very competitive in nature, so it will be very exciteing.

| Hi! I'll wish you all of the luck in the world! How's that? What you might not know is that a lot of the people reading these threads are not even members, so they cannot reply.

| I would also check YTCA (Yorkshire Terrier Club of America) or AKC and look at the show events and see if there is someone near your area you can contact. This way they will be close to help you search and see the dog - to give you help. You should also go to the local breed or all breed dog club in your area. There are people there that can help you to. Best of luck! Sounds like you are doing good. T. |

| There are some upcoming shows that I am planning to attend with my daughter Katie. Lots of driving involved and some hotel stays, but it will be fun for us both, some real bonding time... boy she is growing up fast! Thanks for the support!
