| Posh Pets Rescue (NYC) Hi all. Just wanted to know if anyone on here has experience with this rescue agency. I am looking to adopt a little girl companion for my Nikko and I came across Posh Pets Rescue on Petfinder. I have emailed them repeatedly and submitted 2 applications but have yet to receive an answer from them. I know they must be overwhelmed with responses, but an acknowledgement that they received my application would be nice. Can anyone recommend a good rescue agency in the NYC area? I am looking for a small, female Yorkie or Maltese (from 5-15 lbs), preferably young (approximately 1-4 yrs old). Any advice would be much appreciated.

| I had called them a couple of years ago before I got my Missy. They were not very nice, would not tell me much about the dog I was interested in. Just said I had to submit an application first. They seem to list a lot of their dogs on Craigslist. I was trying to rescue back then but it just did not work out for me. There is another shelter in NYC that currently has a male two year old yorkie. The name is Animal Haven Shelter. I have personally not have any experience with them. But you can try. |

| Would you please post a link to their site. I'm interested in taking a look to see what they are all about. You have to realized that just because someone puts Rescue after their name does not meet they are legitimate if you get my drift. If I were you I would watch Petfinder.com for Yorkies. There are so many all of the time that I makes my head spin!

| Thank you for your response. I get the feeling it is very difficult to adopt a dog from this agency. A co-worker of mine also tried a few months ago to inquire about a German Shepherd and they never got back to her either. I will try my luck with Animal Haven, as per your suggestion. It is really frustrating because I want to do the right thing by adopting an older dog that needs a good home, rather than purchasing a puppy, but these agencies make it very difficult. I realize they must be careful and choosy, and I am willing to submit to their screening process, but they won't even give me a chance.

| Shih-Tzu and Furbaby Rescue is a wonderful group to deal with. They are a network of volunteers and all of their dogs are fostered prior to placement. They will do a home visit and check references. They have their own website, but have many more dogs than are listed. They always have Yorkies. I really recommend them from personal experience.
