| Eye goo Hello, My baby Rico get "eye boogies" quite a bit. I'm not sure if he has allergies or just gooey eyes. Does anyone else's dog get this frequently? Do you have any good products or suggestions to help remove them? Thanks!

| if it is clear in color- it's normal.. Layla wakes up to it every morning...we just wipe it off. If it is green or yellow it is probably an eye infection. |

| I'd say for the most part that it is clear-ish. Once it "dries", it turns brown and hard. It sticks to his hair, and I think it's uncomfortable for him when I remove it.

| Wall-E get eye boogies too... never had a dog before him that had sooo much eye gunk. But I just take a washcloth and wipe it off.. sometimes it really gets stuck in his hair and I have to pick at the eye goop. |

| If you moisten the matter with a warm washrag, then use a flea comb to pick them out it is soooo much easier. They don't fight as much either. |

| i was concerned about it with dex as dee dee and demi do not get it so i went to an opthamologist to have his tear stain done and it was fine. She said yorkies have these real fine hairs in the inside corner of eyes and the goo attaches to it and it strings over the eye. She said do not use saline solution too much as it will mess with the natural tear production of the eye. She said to just use a warm wash cloth and wipe eyes and if they are swollen and red then use a warm compress on each eye for 5 minutes. Dry eye does run in this breed so if having eye issues a tear stain test is good to have done as they can go blind from dry eye and it is like having sand in their eye so very painful so the way i did not feel it was that is dex only rubbed his eye when it had goo in it other wise he did not bother it ever so i think if it was dry eye they would be rubbing their eyes all the time goo or not as it is painful. |

| Thanks for the tip Dwerten. My dogs have those annoying gunks as well and sometimes they smell which drove me crazy. I usually use eyes cleaner (from pet smart) or sometimes I wet a washcloth and put a little bit of tearless shampoo to remove them. Now Coco's eyes are kind of tearing. Is this a good thing?..instead of dry eyes. |

| I cut a cotton ball in half, wet it with a little warm water, and just wipe the gunk from Garrett's eyes. If it's dried then it just rest the damp cotton on it for a few second to soften it then wipe it clean. Sometimes, during the day, i'll have to give him a quick wipe cause I hate when his eyes look nasty. Garrett's really good about getting his eyes cleaned, I try to do it every morning and evening when I'm brushing my teeth so it will be routine and normal for him. I clean his teeth at the same time.

| I use unscented baby wipes to wipe his eyes/face. For the left over eye goo that I can't get off with the wipe, I use a flea comb. The wipe helps it loosen up and makes it easier to get it out with the flea comb.

| I have tried a lot for Dezi because she hates to see me coming towards her for anything like this. Nothing made her more tolerant but cotton really worked well. Now I just sit them each on the vanity in the bathroom and use a warm washcloth with shampoo, they smell so wonderful afterwards. I wanted convenience so I could keep something next to me on my end table but then Dezi just won't to sit with me because she is paranoid. I heard Paul Mitchell makes doggie wipes. But the smell on Dezi's face is horrible, I never thought to ask anyone else about it. Did anyone ever hear that they sweat from the bridge of their nose? A groomer told another Yorkie friend to keep her nose trimmed well because she was vacationing on a boat for a week so as not to have her overheat. I notice that when both of mine are playing hard or very active they are soaked on their face. Maybe that's what the smell is....
