| [News] Bringing Dogs to Work Reduces Stress As I'm sure those lucky few of you YT'ers know! --- Many business owners in the Prescott area have pet peeves, such as taxes, governmental regulations and health care costs. But taking their dogs and other pets to work is not one of them. Bringing pets to work could provide a social environment for the pets and entertain customers, business owners said. "It is like spending every day with our best friends," said Bea Stansky, co-owner with partner Linda Raney of Awards Etc. in Prescott Valley. According to a nationwide survey, pets at work also can reduce blood pressure, lower stress, and improve people's emotional and physical health. The survey, conducted by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, indicated that 73 percent of the participating companies reported a more productive work environment, with 27 percent noting a lower absenteeism rate. Stansky takes Dallas, a Yorkshire terrier, and Raney brings her poodle, Zak, and poodle mix, Moki, to their Highway 69 frontage road business. Awards Etc. supplies trophies and other awards, and provides a locksmith service. Raney and Stansky keep their dogs behind a small gate in back of the counter, but other business owners let their dogs and other pets have free rein of their establishments. For instance, Coco, a 5-year-old cocker spaniel, roams around Fancy That! a store in downtown Prescott that sells home accessories, furniture, gifts and jewelry. Coco hangs out with a 14-month-old silk terrier named Leah next door at Whatever Was, a resale women's clothing store. Customers pet and talk to the dogs, bring them biscuits and other treats, and take the canines for walks when the owners are busy. Most shop owners said they trained their dogs to behave around customers and employees by seeking to be petted while not jumping up on people or barking. Nichols and others bring their pets to work in part because as owners they can set the rules. However, some owners believe that pets may not be suited for certain workplaces or be around employees or customers who have allergies. To reduce exposure to allergies, an administrator at the Prescott Valley Samaritan Center brought a spray to apply on cats and keep their dander down, said Tammy Cease, medical records director. Cease, who brings two cats and one of her three dogs to work, said she also feeds vitamins to the cats to reduce their shedding. The nursing home residents enjoy visiting with the pets, Cease said. Customers of local area businesses feel the same way. "I think it makes them (businesses) personable," Humboldt resident Mary Burklow said during a recent visit to Awards Etc. "If they care about animals, they care about customers." http://kvoa.com/Global/story.asp?S=3173233 |

| Webster comes to work!! HI All, Webster comes to work with me, I try to bring him every day but some of our shops won't allow me to take him inside so on the days that I have to do shopping after work he stays home, not very happy about this but the days that he comes with he is a bundle of joy! My collegues love him to bits and when he have to stay home they are upset, our Manager says it is so good to have Webster around because he (Webster) is always happy to see him and it makes him feel good. Even our CEO and the other Managers comes to my office just to see and play a little bit with him! This also helps me to have control over his diet and health because if he stays home my elderly father in law don't look after him the way that he needs to be looked after. Happy working days!!! Linda

| I too have brought Bailey to work with me since the day I got him, Not only does it help US, it has helped him so much, to socialize him. Also people come in and out, and has taught him to NOT run out of the door. It is great for our customers, immediately it starts conversation, and a warm and friendly enviroment. I can understand about " bringing your bestfriend to worK" He gets so excited in the morning,, and on Monday mornings he is Crazy to get here!! I think he gets tired of Just me all weekend, we live alone, so coming to work is great for him, all my coworkers greet him, and there are certain people that bring him treats and special visitors that he has really taken to ,,, uniform guy, mailman,, ups guy, are just a few! The only problem I have is the "few" nondog people,, and why is it, those are the people the dog will NOT leave alone,, He ends up jumping in THEIR LAPS,, so I then have to get the leash and keep him by my side! I think he senses their dislike, and wants to change their minds! Yes, I thank my boss often for letting me bring my Bailey Boy to work!

| Bringing Dogs to Work Reduces Stress I bring Frankie to work every day. My clients love him. He brongs so much love into the office. I work in the hearing aid industry and one of my clients said "I'm going to buy hearing aids today but only if Frankieis here." She adores him, as do most of my clients. I've only had 1 instance where as soon as the man came in I grabbed Frankie up and removed him from the room cuz I envisioned bad things happening. He's a pretty aunry ol' coot. Other than that he is loved there. He gives so many Yorkie hugs daily.

| I also take Hefner to work with me. Remember Elle Wood from Legally Blonde with her little chihuanhua, Bruiser, in the courtroom! HaHa!! He has a place under my desk with a bed and water and food dishes. It's his home away from homw and, with a few exceptions, he is appreciated by all! |

| Asia comes to work with me. I built a little wall at the end of the counter to keep her from running out and tripping the customers. She loves to meet people. When customers come in and comment about her I tell her to ''Go to the wall" and she runs over to the wall to meet them and they love on her. That is the only comand she has mastered so far. I have never had a customer not like her being there. Plus her house training is going much better at work than at home. |
