| Am I doing it right???? I started home cooking for Zoey. I think I should have done more research before I started. I am sooooo confused. I am boiling chicken Brown rice and baby carrotts. Now she is really picky. I give Zoey about 1/3 C chicken 1 tbsp. Rice and 1 baby carrot at each meal. Morning and night. I give Pet-tabs vitamin once a day (I broke them into 1/4) I sprinkle missing link on her breakfast meal. (1/4tsp.) I add 1/4 hard boiled egg in breakfast twice a week. She has canidae all stage always out for nibbles Is this healthy? I hope so because now this dog refuses to eat anything except boiled chicken! She has gained a little weight too (5 oz)

| I guess I should have mentioned Zoey is a 4lb Yorkie. Also, The Chicken is only 1/4 cup. The entire meal equals almost 1/3 cup with the rice and carrott. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Even if It's constructive criticism. I just want to do the right thing for her. Thanks all.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You can get it online easily - I use Solid Gold's Bone Meal. You can also make your own from crushed egg shells.

| Oh, thank you so much for posting this. I have done the same thing and am so sorry I did it. I have 3 dogs and was feeding them Little Cesar which I know is crap now, but this is too hard. I cant imagine feeding them raw so I cook for them. I do just what you do though I vary the meat from day to day. I add brown rice but no vegetables. I tried it several times and they wouldnt touch it. I do add missing link but no vitamins. Im not sure I am giving them what they need and frankly, though I love them to death, I am not willing to do anything more complicated. I want to switch back to dog food where I just open a bag or can and can feel like they are getting what they need. Laura |

| Sounds good, just be sure to add the calcium. Here's a link to a book that I've found very helpful for home cooking for Jake. I really enjoy home cooking, and Jake is loving it! http://www.drpitcairn.com/books/pitcairn_book.html

Please, please, please don't go back to feeding just dog food-especially a low quality dog food-after you've started feeding them a quality diet of homemade food. Zoeybear, the diet you're feeding sounds great. I recommend that you make the Healthy Powder in Dr. Pitcairn's book and use that instead of the missing link. The Healthy Powder includes calcium and other ingredients so you can be assured your dog is getting the vitamins she needs. I also think you should broaden the horizons of food she's getting That way she will try new things, get new vitamins in her diet, and she will be less apt to be a picky eater in the long run. Try treats of other vegetables and fruits like peeled apples, bananas, frozen green peas, lettuce, seeded cucumber, and cantaloupe. Also 1 tsp of cottage cheese or plain/vanilla yogurt mixed in with fruit or egg is great for breakfast. Try scrambling eggs and cooking in the microwave too for something different. My dogs love rice, but they also get oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, and whole wheat bread (crumbled) too! Keep up the great work-your dog will be healthier and happier!!!
