| dry food worries We have 3 dogs and have always fed them dry food. Some of you know that we got Alexis about 3 weeks ago. We immediately put her on natural balance with the rest of our dogs. For the last few days she has been gobbling her food up so quickly that she chokes. The kibble is a fairly small size. With all of the recalls, I don't want to do a wet food. Any suggestions? |

| You can put some boiled hot/warm water in with the dogfood, let it cool a bit and when the food is soaked, warm and yummy feed it to him. That is how you get a healthier "wet food". But it is better I think to feed the dry food dry because it helps with keeping the tartar at a minimum so there is another way to get the dogs to eat slower. You can put a cup upside down in the middle of the bowl so the dog has to eat around the object. You can also use other things for ex. a rock (but it has to be big enough so the dog can not swallow it). One of my dogs did eat so fast at one time that she would throw up the food soon after eating, so to slow her down I did this and it worked like a charm! Then after a while I stopped and she would continue to eat more slowly. |

| there is also a bowl that you can buy that has three little protrusions sticking up in it that makes your dog eat slower.. same idea, I guess. I think it is called the break fast bowl. -O

I tried the cup today and she did slow down and didn't choke! OpheliaLoved, thanks for the link. I have never seen or heard of those bowls before your post. I am definitely going to invest in two of these bowls. I always learn so many new tricks here. Thanks a bunch!

| I saw those bowls on Ebay yesterday too. I tried yesteday putting a golf ball in Max's bowl (I'd heard that it would work)....his canned food, he wolfed it down anyway, just had a harder time licking the bowl completely free of any debris , and he seemed to slow down a little at first when I put it in his dry food, but once he figured it out, it didn't take him much longer to get that ingested either . Maybe a bigger bowl with TWO golf balls, lol..or a Break Fast bowl in in the future!

I kept this up for I think a month, after that she had relaxed enough and gotten used to eating slower. Doesn´t eat very slow but not very fast eather. It has been a year since I stopped using the cup and still it works, she eats slower and now chews her food. These dishes are cleaver, never seen them before
