| AAFCO approved dog foods? Anybody know of a site that lists all the foods approved by the AAFCO? I looked up their site, but it did't seem that helpful. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | you have to becareful about what you read on the internet. The internet gets a lot of people paranoid because anyone can write their opinion on anything and that written piece can be sited by others as truth when in fact its only one persons opinion. As a vet technician and someone who has a BS in biology and pre veterinary studies who has taken classes on dog nutrition, behavior, and medical care (among other things) i can tell you that the aafco isn't as bad as people make it seem. When looking for a dog food i check the bag to make sure it says "Animal feeding tests using AAFO procedures substantiate that "DOG FOOD NAME" provides complete and balanced nutrition for the maintenance of adult/puppy/geriatric dogs" This was you know that the food has been analysed and tested by chemists and dogs for palatability and nutritional needs. But of course people can say that my statement is medically opinionated because that's what i was "fed" in school and at work, so it all depends on who you want to trust.

I am collecting food samples for when I get my baby. I have always looked for that AAFCO approved line on bags, but I always wonder if there are some good foods that aren't "AAFCO complete and balanced". Wellness, for example-here's their line: "Wellness Super5Mix? Puppy Formula is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for growth." So what does that mean? They try to meat their standards, but are not recognized as complete and balanced? | |

some people feel very strongly about feeding just dog food, feeding raw, or feeding home cooked food. So they are going to point you to websites that support their choices. When asking for advise on things like this you have to do your own research, read all sides, and then make a decision for yourself. Personally I look for information by accredited professionals like vets and scientists. Also, since i'm a nut for research, i check journals to see if i can find any information as well. I trust the medical field because i know what i have done and researched and seen, so the aafco is good for me.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i know that. the point of my last response was to tell you about the different answers you could get regarding the aafco and why they are totally opposite, not to wave my opinion at you.
