| Bed Wetting/Hormonal Incontenance? Advise Please! Hey many of you know my Jazzie. She just turned 9 years old and started to wet herself when she is resting or sleeping. She has an appointment to have her urine & blood work to see if it's related to her estrogen level or if it could be caused by something else. Oh, yes, she was spayed after her first heat. Right now she is wearing diapers for new born babies. I cut a hole in it for her tail. Now I'm worried about rashes. I bought the doggie diapers and the pads to go with it but eesh! the pads are so small and don't hold anything. It's kind of like using panty liners when you need "Depends".. Anyone have any experience with this? What treatments did you use? How well did it work? Would you do anything different?

| All 3 of my older (now deceased) female dogs had problems with incontinence. My poodle wore diapers just like you are doing, but my german shep/wolfhound mix would soak the diapers. I used a water proof baby crib liner under her when she slept. My Golden ret (just put her to sleep on new years eve, she was 14 1/2) had problems too. With her I discovered that if I used a lower protein dog food she was able to hold it better. I discovered it by accident. I ran out of her reduced calorie dog food and gave her regular food that my german shep eats. She peed all over my carpet as she slept that night. I didn't make the correlation until about a month later when I did the same thing and had the same problem. I checked the protein content of the reduced calorie dog food and the german shep food (both were Eukanuba) and the protein was alot higher in the regular food than the reduced calorie food. I did alot of homework looking for lower protein food and ended up changing her to Hills Science Diet 7+ senior. I only took her off the reduced calorie because she started dropping weight and I was looking for a higher fat content. It worked great for her. She still had the occasional problem wetting through the night, but she was so much better! I think the vet can prescribe a drug that helps also. I never did that for Montana because I didn't want to give her any drugs unless I had to. Hope this helps. |

| Just saw your thread. I have had no experience with a problem like little Jazzie is having, but have experience with diapers. I use the Simple Solutions [from PetSmart] diapers and they are just like the baby diapers but have a hole for her tail. They are great ... they are the velcro kind and you can check and then close them back. I use them when we are visiting friends and she insists on going pee pee on their carpet!! That's a whole other story .... she never ever does that at home ... my friend laughs and says she's just marking her territory! I, on the other hand, don't think it's funny! I also use them as a safety measure when we fly, just in case. I have never had a problem with them irritating her or anything. The only problem I have encountered has been with size .... the smallest ones are too big but I put them on really tight and they stay. You're absolutely right about the little pads .... they don't hold anything! Please let us know about little Jazzie, I hope it's nothing serious.

My late Molly also was on it when she got older and due to lot's of health isuues caused incontinence, and she never had a problem either. I had also tried the Natural way at first and it did not work at all.

| Yep I knew it was 2007. I saw that someone had responded to it concerning using all natural products.
