Life Span I heard today that mini yorkies live about half as long as standards. Is that true? Because I've also heard that they can live longer!? Just curious to know.

| There's not really any such thing as a mini Yorkie. But some have baby doll faces which are shorter snouts, and some have terrier faces, with longer snouts. They all live quite a while if they are well taken care of, usually 10-13 years.

I have had yorkies since 1984 and for a time bred them. There really is no such yorkie as a teacup or mini. Some are very little and I have one now that weighs about 3lbs. and would not want one any smaller. Big or little they can and do live a long, long life. Right now I have two yorkies left from my original nine and they are 16 years old and still going. They no longer have any teeth, can only see shadows and have to be feed food that we process to a mush, but still give us plenty of love. So to answer your question, yorkies live a long and loving life and in my opinion, are the best.

Mortality The life span of a healthy Yorkie is 10-15 years.[34] Extremely under-sized Yorkies (3 pounds or less, and often promoted as "Teacups") generally have a shorter life span, as they are especially prone to health problems such as chronic diarrhea and vomiting and are more easily injured.[34] Even the normal small size of a Yorkshire Terrier means that it can have a poor tolerance for anesthesia, and it is more likely to be killed or injured by falls, other dogs, and owner clumsiness This is just normal life span, can be less can be more.

My boy Clarence, has a collapsed trach (since he was very young)& enlarged heart...he's 12...I think it's his bad attitude that keeps him going! My sister has a 14yo who has had seizures since he was about 4 & Charlie is still kicking. Then you hear about a, seemingly, healthy pup who just fades away at a very young age. My suggestion would be to just spoil them rotten from day 1 'cause you never know when God is going to want them back.
