| Angel Eyes Tear Stain Remover Hi there, I am new to the site and own 2 yorkie girls - Roo is 7 and Lola is 18 months. Roo suffers from eye problems and nothing at all seems to help. Ointment and drops from the vet ease it but it's still there, washing and drying her eyes every day results in huge clumps of black gunk (sorry for the graphic description) being combed from her eyes. I have seen a product called Angel Eyes Tear Stain Remover online and wondered if anyone has used it. Apparently it is a powder which is sprinkled on to the food. Any information would be gratefully received. Thank you |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. There are many potential causes of eye drainage and staining. Here is a link to an article about it: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...ar-stains.html At 7 months, teething could be contributing to Roo's drainage. Is there a reason the vet prescribed ointments and drops? I've only heard of this if there is a medical problem, like an injury or dry eye. Some Yorkies do not produce enough tears to keep the eye moist, and some are born missing the glands for tear production. These problems can easily be diagnosed by a good vet or specialist. My boys' eye gunk is usually from environmental allergens, worse during the spring and fall. Sometimes it is from hair in the eye. We clean daily and use a flea comb with closely spaced teeth to comb the corners of the eyes. I also like Tropiclean Spa facial cleanser. Great for tear stains and grubby beards, but gentle on the eyes. Sometimes a food change will help improve eye drainage. I know people who have had success with Angel Eyes, but it does contain an antibiotic that some sources say is not good for long term use. I think you would be better off trying to pinpoint the underlying cause of excessive eye drainage.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is the gunk worse during certain times of the year? If yes, then it's probably allergy related and would likely be helped by treating those allergies. You also have to wonder whether there are any ingrown eyelashes or similar too. As far as Angel Eyes, they took out the antibiotic (tylosin) about a year ago and since then people don't find it works as well, fyi. You could still try it though - it may be worth a try...

| Thank you for the replies. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it at all. the vet said it's dry eye, but none of the ointment or drops make that much difference. My hubby cleans them almost every day, but now and then they are just too sore. Both dogs are clipped quite short in an attempt to keep hair from their eyes - Lola is fine but poor Roo is stuck with it. The thing that made me worry about Angel Eyes is that it seems to be available only online, so who knows what is in it? I will read the article link with interest. Thanks again x |

| Angel eyes is available at many pet retail stores, I think grape leaf is a primary ingredient now that tylosin is no longer for sale otc? There are other companies that make a similar product but as was mentioned- if daily antibiotic is what was clearing pups eyes up I would say that is the sign of a deeper issue.
