| Tips for Picky Eater Hello All my 1yr old male is a picky eater. I put the wet food down he sniffs it then walks away and might come back to it and eat it. I've tried adding parmesan cheese which seems to work ok. But I'm most concerned about how late he waits and then might throw up bile. I spoke to his vet and did the fecal test and it came back negative. Any advice on behavioral tips for my little guy. I have already tried switching foods and picking it back up after 20 min if he's not eating it. He's so so picky and sometimes I have to put the food on the floor mat and maybe he'll eat it. He doesn't eat very much as he's a tiny little boy (3.5 lbs) and the vet said he should eat no more than 1/2 cup food total for the day. Help! !! |

| Is he the only dog in the house? If yes, I would suggest free feeding. When Lexi was the only dog I was so tired of trying to get her to eat that I just free fed. She sometimes wouldn't eat until later in the day, but she always ate enough and never threw up bile. When Parker joined us, we had to stop free feeding because he loved to eat and would overeat if we let him. Getting Lexi to eat on a schedule was not working. I also was going to start working on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a few hours and didn't like the idea of Lexi not eating all morning. I tried wet food again and that worked a little, but she still didn't eat much of it some mornings. I then tried Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Mixer to add to her kibble. I was a little hesitant because it came in pieces, but I was able to mash up the pieces with a fork and add a little water to it and mix it together. Both dogs love it. Lexi has (for the first time ever) eaten all of her food both morning and night for the past month since I started it. The only downside is I couldn't find it in stores so I had to order it online (I used chewy.com). They come in 3 flavors, but the chicken was the easiest to mash up. The Lamb is not too hard, but the beef some reason is not easy to mash up. I still use the beef, but not as much as the other 2. I know this may not work for your pup, but it was the only thing that worked for us. |

| Kreuer thanks for the info. I don't free feed bc I can't get him to eat dry food and am just giving him wet at feeding. I've tried endlessly with the kibble but he just takes pieces here and there and not enough for a meal. I actually bought the puppy instinct dry kibble that has some raw boost and he just eats the boost kibble and leaves the other. But curious if you can put a link here on the kind you bought for your dog |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Have you tried rotating btwn a couple/few different kibbles? That can sometimes help as it keeps them enticed / stimulated with the different flavors/smells. Have you tried Natures Logic yet? That's a very nice kibble.

Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Meal or Mixer Chicken Formula Freeze-Dried Dog Food, 14-oz bag It's basically the boost pieces, but in a bag of their own. I looked into the kibble with raw boost, but I didn't want to switch foods again. Although my other pup will eat anything, he has a sensitive tummy and I didn't want to switch foods again. I like the mixer because you can use any kibble and add as many raw pieces as you want. The secret is to mash up the raw pieces. I use a 1/4 measuring cup, add 10 raw pieces and fill the rest with kibble. I then pour it into the bowl and mash the raw pieces up with the back of a fork, then add some water. The water helps it stick to the kibble. It actually smells really good too. Like I said, the beef is tougher so it's a little harder to mash up. The chicken and lamb are my favorite. You can also feed it on it's own, but that would be a little expensive. | |

| Hi Kreur, what type of kibble do you mix/crush the instinct raw mixer with? I bought it and gave it to him alone, the 1st day he ate it all, and now he's not as interested. |
