Nauseated: Could it be the food

Where do I begin~? He was nauseated 2 days ago in the evening and I didn't think much of it. Then yesterday again in the afternoon. I took him to the ER and they gave him shots and I got one can of RC for GI. I gave him a bit of the canned last night and he ate, but none this am. I'm cooking brown rice for him now as someone suggested...not the Vet.

Two days ago when he was sick, I fed him 3 times that day. Could that be the issue~? Normally, I feed him twice a day. I've switched him to Purina One Smartblend 3 months ago from Blue Buffalo. Anyways, he seem hungry when I fed him in the afternoon but I don't know if that is the problem tho the Vet thinks that.

Feeding him some cooked meat mixed with some cooked brown rice for a few days should help settle his stomach. A lean beef or chicken would be good. Keep the fat content down.
You could slowly add his food back to his diet after he is back to normal and see how he responds. If he starts having problems again that would be a good indication that the food is the problem.
Let your vet know and report the food to the FDA. They can only investigate the food if you report it to them. They would need the information that is on the bag so make sure you hold on to that for now.
Unlike with human food issues only the pet owner is responsible for reporting problems with pet foods. Vets no not have a reporting plan in place as hospitals and human doctors do.

Brown rice is very hard to digest. Generally when there having tummy issues vets suggest boiled chicken and white rice. I think it could be the food. I personally don't trust Purina. They were the makers of the waggin train chicken jerky that was linked to hundreds of dog deaths and hundreds of very sick dogs and it took them years to pull it because it was more about the money. So if there doing that with treats who knows what there doing with dog food. You might want to look into natural balance limited ingredients or one of acans limited ingredient foods.

I wouldn't worry about brown rice. As long as it is fully cooked it is easily digested and more nutritious than white rice.

Keeping the fat content down is most important right now.

Thanks for both of your replies. I got some rotisseries chicken at the grocery and with rice and a bit of chicken broth, he gobbled the bit down. No nausea today. I didn't know that about the reporting or Purina's past issues. But when I Google about Purina and other brands, seems like all brands the owner had issues with their dog vomiting...even the good foods which surprised me.

There is a website called truthaboutpetfood.com. The woman that owns the site attends meetings that the FDA has with pet food companies on a regular basis. She is also associated with several veterinarians. Anyway, the standards for ingredients allowed in pet "feed" continues to go down and pet food companies are continually reformulating their foods. Since in reality pet food is classified as feed instead of food it is amazing what the FDA allows to go into what our pets eat.
It is not surprising that so many dogs have digestive issues.

Yeah but I'm talking about actual factual stuff that happened not just people's reviews. You have to be careful with the spices on that kind of chicken and the salt in the broth.

Brown rice is not as easily digestable as white rice.

Thank for asking He was so sleepy this am and didn't want to walk but finally did a bit. He refuses the RC so after taking him for a longer walk to get him to potty he ate a bit of brown rice, rotisserie chicken and his dog food. He ate a good amount But he's back laying down resting and doesn't want to be disturbed

I would be worried about the spices on the rotisserie chicken and the brown rice upsetting him tummy. I would try boiled chicken breast with white rice and probably go back to the vet. It sounds like something may not be right.

What I bought from the grocery at the deli was plain rotisserie chicken and not the other ones which have spices. I don't wish to cook chicken because I am a long time vegetarian and haven't eaten meat in over 30 years. I am okay dealing with the dog food as well as what I purchased, but not to cook it.
