| Woke up crying... Last night Reyna was sleeping on my bed and woke up crying as if she were in pain. I touched her all around to see if she was hurt anywhere and nothing. She was fine so I didn't take her to the ER vet. But it scared me! So I guess my question is...do they have nightmares? or what does anyone think could have happened? do their little legs cramp up like ours do? Any ideas? She is fine and playing around like normal today. Thanks guys.. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | They do have dreams. I have had dogs cry and look like they are running while sleeping. It probably was a bad dream since he seems fine now.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | HAHA! I've often wondered what dogs were dreaming about...are they chasing a cat or rabbit, or being chased by a squirrel or blue jay???

| Sneak likes to howl like he's singing in an opera in his sleep. I have no idea why he does it, but I'll look over at him and ain't a thing touching him and he isn't even grimacing. He's just howling like he's striking the highest note! Terd! Bailey, on the other hand, he likes to let out these little yelps. It's kind of like a miniature cry. Kinda like he's trying to cry to get my attention and like he's peeking out of the corner of his eye to see if I'm looking. I always just make sure he's fine and sometimes I wake him up if it goes on too long. He just looks at me like, "Why on earth did you wake me up? I was sleeping soooo good!"

| Tigger's usually really good at sleeping. John and I are deep sleepers so if he does make sounds at night then we don't hear them. but there has been a couple times when we were awake and he was sleeping on our laps that he's whined/small whimper/barked. Very hard to describe it's a combatination of all of those.

| When we were little we had a German/Huskey mix. (Beautiful dog) He would have nightmares too. He would cry out loud and sometimes it would scare the hell out of us. My mom would go see if he was ok and noticed it was just a dream and she would bless him just like with us. I used to think she would go overboard with that dog, but I now know how she felt since I have my Gus. People think I am nuts when it comes to my Gus. My Pom used to dream alot too. She would get this silly grin on her face sometimes or she would even cry,,, never out loud like Rocky but a soft whimper. I asked my vet about it and he said dogs do dream and also have nightmares as well. Your poor baby must have had herself a really bad one. Give her a kiss from me and Gus!

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Magic has done this once before...we couldn't find anything wrong with her. Our best guess was that she had a cramp in her leg as she started licking it really bad, we just massaged that leg for a few minutes and she went back to sleep just fine. It scared us to death as we had no idea what was going on. I also know that both of my girls do dream..Sailor will often whine or cry in her sleep. And sometimes I think she has nightmares, because she will wake up really starteled all a sudden!!

| Miko dreams like that sometimes too! He has scared us on a few occasions in the middle of the night, but then we just hug him and he's fine

| Yes...Maddie would do that too! LOL! It's really funny...I mean, what do house dogs really dream about?? Monkey isn't very vocal when he dreams, but he twitches sometimes. Maddie would go into full force activity...talking (whimpering) and all. Once she was mad at me all day and I didn't know why. I remembered that she had a dream the night before and woke us up. Well, after discussing it with someone, I was told that dogs don't know the difference between their dreams and reality and she may have had a bad dream about something I did. I hope she didn't have a mean dream about me! Maybe it's because I woke her up in the middle of it and she put the two together or something. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting. I don't know how true it is, but it makes sense.
