| Tooth surgery I took Josie 2-weeks ago for a check up cause she was limping on one front leg. I thought her and Jack crashed on the week-end when running back and forth to see who would be on first. Actually arguing who was going to get on porch sitting spot to see Sadie a neighbors dog who roams up and down road. Her leg turned out to be ok, possible sprang Vet really couldnt find nothing wrong and of course whn I get her back home she go to limping again. She got ok after a day or so. While the Vet was doing an over all check on her she found that her back upper tooth was cracked down the side and on the bottom. Vet said it has to be removed or it will get infected. She said the tooth has the 3-roots on it and will be surgery. I am so nervous about having it done but I know it has to come out. She hasnt really starteds howing yet that it is bothering her although since the vet showed me I do notice she eats her kibble on the other side. Her surgery is set for this coming up Friday, alone with her surgery they will also go ahead and clean the teeth alone with Jack's too. Has anyone had to have teeth removed like this? What is the healing process consist of? Josie is 4years old and weighs 7lbs. Also to add, vet ask what hard objects does she chew on. I can only think of the Nyla Bones they both chew on after they eat. Nothing else that hard are they given. What also could I give them to chew after they eat? Its like they chew to clean their teeth? |

| Teddy had seven teeth removed at age 3.5 and did fine. I hope all goes well for her! Brushing their teeth is best for upkeep once the mouth has healed from the surgery.

| Callie has had one of those teeth removed it broke then cracked in half. She did it on a bully stick. Hers was causing her pain so them pulled it the same day I took her in because I fasted her the night before. They put stitches to close the gum up and she was only aloud to eat soft food for a week or so. I would crush he food up in a plastic bag then soak it in boiling water drain it then I put it in a magic bullet and turned it into mush and she liked it.

| Sounds like the upper 4th premolar. Most common tooth to get cracked. Not optimal to lose this tooth because it is used extensively for chewing, but obviously there is no choice here and she will do just fine without it. Dental xray should be used in a case like this. Most vets don't have it. Some types of NylaBone are very hard. They crack teeth all the time.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I know it's scary to put them under and have things done, but she will do great! That tooth really does need to come out, so it's really good that it was caught now rather than later. I hope all goes well. Please let us know how she does.

| Wanted to update..... That you everyone, your comments helped me with additional questions to the vet. Josie is wooey right now. She whimpering a bit here and there. Real jumpy. She did good, X-rays were done before and after. She is now on buprenorphine for 5 days clindadrops and rimadly. Soft foods for 14 days. Check up back in 14 days. Jack also had to a premolar pulled his wasn't as bad as Josie, little chip but had such small root she had to dig it out. X-rays before and after also on him. He is only on rimadly. Soft food for him for 24 hours. This is the quietest my house has been since I have had them. Especially Jack, he is our barker. I was trying to get settled in and jack heard a motorcycle and took off running to door, Josie jumps on back of couch and jumped down. Scared me to death. Now I'm on floor guarding the couch. Today's bill totaled $711.00 that's with an $89. Discount. We'll be using something different for chewing. Thank ya'll again. |

| Happy to hear the big day is over for both Josie and Jack, and that they both did well. Did Jack get his bark back today?
