| Issue w/ putting weight on Penny is skin and bones. You can't tell by just looking at her because she of her hair but if I pick her up or pet her I can feel her ribs/hips/so forth. Even before/during her pregnancy she was boney/thin no matter how much I gave her to eat and now that shes nursing it seems like shes lost a couple more ounces. I leave food where only she can get to it (or my AmStaff would eat it) and she eats some but she just doesnt gain weight. Currently I've been giving her 1 tablespoon of Avoderm wet, and free feeding her Diamond Naturals Small Breed Puppy. Is there any higher fat content puppy foods I could feed? Or something else I can do to help her put on weight? I talked to someone about Satin balls but I wasnt sure if that was a good option for her due to her size. She's been dewormed and had a negative fecal so its not a parasite- My vet just keeps saying shell eat when/if shes hungry. Im just a little lost as to how I can help her. Before she was pregnant she reached 5.2 lbs (I think) and was still on the thin side, I havent weighed her since the last time she was at the vet but Id guess shes right at 5 lbs. |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | You can check her food and give her a higher calorie premium dog food.

| Might be good to consult with the vet or even a canine nutritionist on this.

| My pup's mom has always been a boney one and after this last litter her owner just kept her on puppy food to get her weight up. She looks SO much healthier now!

| Free feed and some home food may help open up her appetite. I do both for my girls.

| When was her last bloodwork done? If metabolic issues have been ruled out, all you can really do is increase calories. Since puppy food is already fairly high cal, you might have to start mixing with some calorically dense homecooked food (not exceedingten percent of the diet unless you get it balanced). Satin bals are too high in fat for yorkies.
