I got Chuy as a rehome. His previous owner bragged about how they only fed him THE best -- Nutro! They gave me what remained of their bag, and I just smiled and didn't say anything about their choice of food. I didn't want to get preachy with them about their choice of food .... after all, they were in the process of giving up their dog. When I asked how many times he was fed each day, they just said he was "a picky eater," and didn't eat much. (He was underweight). They also gave me some treats for "sensitive stomachs." Hmmmm. When we got home, I threw the bag away. I started him on Nature's Variety raw in the morning and Acana kibble in the evening. He ate like he was starving, and to this day never turns up his nose at his food and eats it immediately. There is nothing "picky" about his eating habits, he probably just didn't want to eat Nutro because it upset his stomach. Our vet now says his weight is in the normal range (at the lower end of normal).

wow thanks for posting this. I feed my dog wet nutro max mixed with hard dog food (Halo). She eats it, but hesitantly. She has always been picky with food. I've gone through probably 4 brands in 7 years. She does throw up from time to time, but not regularly. I picked Nutro because of the good reviews. I like that it's not as processed as other brands. There are actual carrots, peas, etc..in there. I switched to an Organic brand and it was processed..no real chunks of anything so i went back to Nutro. I'll be doing some more research now after reading those reviews. | |

| Nutro pet food/FDA Probe I have fed Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice to our large dogs for years with no problems. Recently I had a reason to go to their website, when I searched for the website I found numerous customer complaints. The customers said when they reported their pets health issues to Nutro they were not pleased with the response therefore they contacted the FDA. Below is some of the info from and article on the FDA website. "The investigation came to light when the FDA denied a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by ConsumerAffairs.com seeking a list of complaints and lab results the agency has collected regarding NUTRO pet food. The agency denied the request and said that releasing the information could hamper prospective or ongoing action by law enforcement. The document(s) constitute record(s) compiled for law enforcement purposes, the disclosure of which could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings, wrote the FDAs George A. Strait, Jr., assistant commissioner for public affairs." There is much more, I have attached the link. I don't think they proved any link to the health issues but when a company ignores customer complaints and denies that there have been any I not longer trust the company. I am currrenty searching for a quality food for our senior Golden Retriever FDA Confirms Probe of NUTRO Pet Food Deaths, Illnesses |
