| Not even 4 months old and 6 pounds already?? So we had our final vaccination appointment today and of course, "little" Bentley was weighed. 6.1 pounds!! He was born on January 26th... so he's not even 4 months yet. This is pretty large... right?? I only give him a quarter of a cup of Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier puppy twice a day. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

| Bless his heart! He is a growing boy!! He is going to be a larger Yorkie, but he is still within the "breed standard" weight of 7 lbs....he may gain a bunch of weight right up front, then he will level off and slow down on the weight gain....but Bentley is a 6# bundle of love!! NOT BAD GENES!!! MAYBE JUST A THROWBACK!!! HAPPENS IN THE BEST OF FAMILIES/LINES!!! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 05-15-2012 at 04:23 PM. |

| Lots of yorkies are bigger than the standard. They are beautiful drop coated dogs too. A pretty dog is a pretty dog, regardless of size. I'd rather have a large yorkie ANY day, over a tiny one that can't eat. And like really big dogs, teacups tend to have shorter lifespans. Just enjoy your dog.....don't worry about the size. |

| sorry everyone got so upset that wasnt my intention but we all know the history of the yorkie and the yorkie standard now any reputable breeder would have the same opinion to better the breed remember to the guide lines of the standard i wouldnt have guessed so many on yt had such heart the way ive seen some people get ripped a new one when mentioning not altering their pets or heaven forbid mention breeding i dont always like the responses i get but if im asking for opinions of others i have to know they wont all be to my liking and by no means do i think your baby is unworthy of all your love because of size mine are all different sizes and i love them all the same

| When Suzi was less then a year or two she was right at the 7lb mark. however, i noticed she felt like she was skin an bones and was worried she was not eating enough. I changed her diet to taste of the wild, last week she had a vet check up and she was now 10 pounds! I thought she was smaller then my shih tzu, but they were right around the same weight. I personally would rather have a healthy yorkie that may or may not fit into the standard weight, then have to worry if she is thriving or not. Since your puppy is very young she will keep growing and her weight will even out , as long as she is healthy and thriving it does not matter how big your baby will be.

| I met my Bentley's parents... they were 5.4 pounds and 4.5 pounds... I guess sometimes it just happens. The vet says he feels totally healthy (I guess he's long too) so as long as that holds true, I'm happy!
