Donating YT 500 Club Member | Grass Allergies... Help us... The last couple of months when it started to warm up I noticed Taycie becoming uncomfortable. Her eyes would run and she would rub her little face on everything. And then she really started to scratch.. I quickly called the vet and she told me to start giving her 5mg of Benadryl every 12 hours. This has kept things under control. I can tell when she is uncomfortable and when she needs meds. Last week I mentioned everything at our vet appointment and she said keep doing what you are doing. But this week.. I have noticed when we are at the park she REALLY flares up.. especially if they just cut the grass. This afternoon I noticed the skin around her eyes was really red and her ears were red as well.. Her skin gets really red and patchy. I called the vet immediately and told her what was going on. She looked miserable. She told me to start bathing her more frequently and give her Benadryl every 8hrs vs. 12hrs. So I gave her a dose and gave her a bath. In about 20 minutes.. All the redness was gone and she looked great!!!!!!!!! I was so relieved. Along with Benadryl, The bath really did the trick. I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on bathing more then once a week. I am nervous to increase, but along with the Benadryl it truly did help immensely. Does anyone have any recommendations on Shampoos, Conditioners, Wipes... I just don't want to dry her out in the process. I was also looking at Vet's Best at Petco and they look really great.. Does anyone have experience with this particular line and allergies? http://www.vetsbest.com/pdf/VB_16ozAIRS3165810345.pdf Dog Products | Veterinarian's Best: All-Natural Products for your pets' health. I also thought of supplementing with Fish/Salmon oil.. But.. Poor thing can NOT tolerate fish.. whatsoever.. I have done this in the past, and she ended up with REALLY dry skin and runny itchy eyes. So.. That is out of the question too... The minute I stopped.. her skin got better! I just feel so bad! She loves to be outside...Poor Little girl.

| Aww I'm sorry to hear your baby is having bad allergies. My baby has allergies, too and around his eyes get inflamed and red and the hair is gone from it. I guess we should start doing weekly baths. It's very difficult to give Bentley any medicine as he tends to spit it out, sneaky dog.... lol And to give him liquid medicine is a nightmare. I feel awful doing that to him. The vet gave us a steroid ointment to put around his eyes, which is safe for the eyes and wont sting if it gets into his eyes. So we use that periodically. His eyes water a lot so we have to clean around his eyes daily. I hope you can find a good solution soon. I think if you buy specially formulated shampoo (maybe it's expensive?) it wouldn't be a problem to bathe more than once a week. I'd ask your vet if they can recommend a shampoo. Good luck!!

| Rosie has allergies too. But hers are not as bad. My vet always recommends the Benadryl as well. However, if they continue to bother her, he will give her a shot. The shot was like a miracle for her. You might discuss that possibility with your vet. Also, I know some on here have given Zyrtec. However, I would not do anything without discussing it with my vet. Good luck! Allergies are miserable!

Mine did not recommend the Zyrtec either. Benadryl only gives temporary relief and it is not very long lasting. But that is the recommendation from my vet as well. Hopefully wiping her paws and face will help. If not, I would follow up on finding more information about getting the shot.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I'm just wondering...if allergies are environmental then a diet change isn't necessary? I'm just thinking last week I bought a bag of blue buffalo small bread LID diet. This one however contains grains.. she has never had issues with grains before..maybe this is also triggering something as well? I know they say grain free is the best for allergies..

Yes, I do think it is very possible. Did you tell the vet about the food change?

Is that what she was eating before you switched? Your not dumb! We all learn as we go! It may not make a difference but it is worth a shot to try it. Does anyone know if switching back to the previous food will affect her tummy? You might want to do half the old and half the new the first day then go back to the NB.

| That is good! I hope changing the food helps to relieve the problem. If it doesn't then I would talk to my vet again! Good luck. I sure hope this baby can get some relief.

| Riley had an allergic reaction to something he walked over........... It gave him a nasty ear infection. He then had a BAD reaction to the Tresaderm drops the vet gave me for the ear infection. He was then on Clavamox for 14-days. Everything cleared up and the Vet now has me cleaning his ears once a week with ZIRBAC Corium-20 ear cleanser [which smells like Powder....].... The Vet also told me to get a shampoo with Oatmeal.... so I have been bathing him with Tropiclean [I Love It!!]. And I have been giving him 1/2 a benadryl each morning..... He is about 8lbs.
