| I Need to Fatten Up Sophie Kate All- I need to put some weight on Sophie Kate, after spending 3 days in the hospital with Pancreatitis she finally came home on Thursday evening. She is doing very well now but she lost almost a pound and we want to get the weight back on her. Sophie Kate normally weights 8 lbs and she is fed 3/4 of a cup of dry food a day, I have increased her food but she is not finishing it. My friend suggested I get a food called Natural Balance (or Natures Balance) that is packaged like a sausage. I tried searching Yorkie Talk and could not find anything on this food (my search skills may be off). Has anyone ever used this food? Is it good for them? Any suggestion other than giving her fatty foods would be appreciated.

| First, I'm sorry Sophie Kate was not feeling well. Hope she's getting all better! Are you sure you need to fatten her up? I prefer a lean dog over an overweight one and I wouldn't really worry about it and just keep feeding her the normal amounts and she will get back to her normal size in time, I'm sure. Jackson is 16lbs and eats 1/2 cup of Acana (it's about 430 kcal/cup). If he was eating a lower calorie food, I'd probably feed him 3/4 cup at most (with a bit of wet food). But, it depends on the food she's eating. I don't know, just for reference. I have used the NB rolls before, I usually cut them up and use them as treats! I like NB as a brand.

| I usually recommend canned food when trying to put weight on a dog. However, you need to be very careful if she was just very sick, I would not feed anything without prior approval of the vet.

| Thanks all for the advice, right now she is eating Halo but Sophie Kate is such a picky eater I have to switch out her food oftern so we rotate between Halo, Royal Canine and EvoDerm - she will eat all three. I bought a small Natural Balance roll at Petco last night and gave her one piece - she actually liked it. Thank all who asked how she was feeling, Sophie Kate is so much better now. On Monday and Tuesday I was so worried about her, when I got her to the Vet on Monday morning she was severly dehydrated - they did the blood work and put her on an IV immediately.
