| Funny smell on her face Whitney woke up yesterday morning with an eye booger in her right eye. No biggie I assumed, because I have 2 kids and they constantly had eye boogs when they were really little. Wiped it off, and nothing came back all day, clean as a whistle. She got her bath last night in Bobbi Panter's Itchy, blow dried, wiped her ears dry with a rag and brushed her out. All was well. This morning she woke up with what looked like tear tracks on her face. No boogers, just damp fur at the corner of her eyes, and her face smells like dirt. I don't know how else to describe the small other than black garden dirt, like she has been rolling in my flower beds, but she hasn't because she is never alone. I've cleaned her face well today with a warm washcloth, but she still has tear tracks and her face still smells like dirt! Strongly. Like when she is close to me, I know it because I smell her before I see/hear her. It's not stinky, just distinct. She has a vet appt next wednesday for her boosters and a wellness, so would I be good to wait? I don't know if I'm just paranoid and reading too much online or not! DH says he just thinks she smells like the drywall he is installing in another room, but I don't know. Hopefully I'm being a worry-wart and she just has her puppy smell, but does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks.

| Can you try rinsing her down thoroughly in clear water, drying thoroughly and seeing if she still smells that way? And if so, I would vet her B4 next week.

| Hmm, doesn't sound like anything I have seen. Unless you see green or yellow discharge, I think I would just wait and mention it to the vet when you are there next.

| If DH is installing drywall in the other room the dust from it could be causing her eyes to water and creating the tear tracks. My vet also told us to watch for the eye area for something like fungus infection if it stays wet. other than that I'm not sure Vet said it would have a sour smell |

| Ok, so, bad momma. I just noticed today while I was cleaning her eyes again that the hair on the bridge of her nose is to the point that it's starting to poke her in her eyes. Constantly. Think that could be it? It hasn't gotten any worse and doesn't seem to bother her at all, so DH thinks she should be ok to wait. I pinned all of the hair between and under her eyes in a little clippy right between her eyes. I don't want to cut it, because I want it to grow long! :/ I've never had a long-haired dog before so this is all new to me. Does that sound like a reasonable cause for eyes being watery all the time and goopy in the morning? The boogs she has in the morning aren't green or yellow, and she only has them in the morning. I'm going to keep her hair pinned back until it grows past this point I guess? It looks kinda silly pinned right between her eyes. Poor kid!

| Sounds like the hair could irritate the eye and it water, get goopy but can't understand the earthy smell if the good isn't green or yellow. Can't recall a smell from a bit of goop I've seen on a dog in the past. Hope she's better by now.

So glad you found the culprit to the eye issue. And yes, that could be the culprit if it was sometimes poking the eye. Pull the lower lid out too whenever the eyes are bothering, and make sure it's just light pink - not dark pink or red (which can mean infection). Also, when puppies are teething, their eyes can water.
