| Wellness 95% Ok - got a question. I am not used to feeding canned dog food. But Pocket has to have canned food as he has no teeth. We bought some Wellness dog food on Saturday morning, I just opened another can this morning and it is different - it is the Wellness 95%, and said it is a "supplement" for mixing with dry dog food. I have two more cans of that, so I am going to have Bruce take them back to Petco and get the regular Wellness canned food (hadn't noticed the difference when we bought them, was just looking at the ingredient on the front "Lamb and Rice" etc. And saw one that said "Turkey" and another "Beef" so we bought those not realizing they were 95% and to be used as a supplement. The one I opened, can I just mix a little of it with the proper Wellness food? As I said Pocket doesn't eat dry food so can't mix it with that.

| As long as he's only eating one can of it and it's not becoming his normal regular diet, it should be just fine for him. You could mix it with regular Wellness if you want.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | It looks like it's just a pure protein source. If he had that for a meal or two, I don't think it would be harmful. You could absolutely mix it with the regular canned stuff. Wellness 95% Meat Canned Dog Food

| Thanks guys The can I opened I will just mix with the regular Wellness canned food and will have Bruce take the other 3 cans back (thought there was only 2, but there are 3) and change them for the regular. Sometimes I feel so dumb!

| Canned food such as this is high in fat. You cannot just read the label on a can, because it is not telling you all the information. You have to calculate the wet foot into a dry matter basis to see what is in there. Here is a link and if you go to "nutritional guarantees" in the article you will see how to calculate it out. The breed is prone to digestive problems and pancreatitis so it is important to watch the fat. Pet Food Labels - General

| The one I opened is the 95% turkey Guaranteed Analysis Crude Protein (min) 8% Crude Fat (min) 6% Crude Fiber (max) 1% Moisture (max) 78% Two of the others I bought were the same, but one was: Guaranteed Analysis (Label Statement) Crude Protein (min) 6% Crude Fat (min) 11% Crude Fiber (max) 1% Moisture (max) 78% But I am taking them all back except the one I opened.

| You feel dumb? I fed that to my dogs not knowing it was supposed to be mixed with dry. Needless to say I have overweight dogs that have been on a diet for months. |

| Well, problem solved My neighbour mixes it with her Cavalier's dry food on occasion. So, just donated the can I opened today to "Jackson". So just going to take the unopened ones back to Petco and get the regular canned Wellness.

| I really should have read the can at the store. I had put some down for Pocket this morning before I noticed it was supposed to be mixed with dry.

| Just checking. I am feeding Pocket the regular Wellness canned food. The cans are 12.5ozs, the directions are 1 can for dogs up to 15lbs. Pocket is only 6 lbs 3 ozs, and I am feeding him 3 times a day - 2ozs each time. He cleans his bowl. Am I giving him enough? I am not used to canned food and I free feed Beamer and Lil Bit.
