| Let's talk dog food and brands Hello All, our Maya, 5 mos. female yorkie is currently on Royal Canin (for yorkie puppies) and we are wondering if this is a very good brand. Her first bag of dog food was Caesar's then we switched her to RC and noticed her coat came in thicker. We have noticed it isn't very shiny and it seems dry along with her skin. She scratches at times but not overly. What is the best dog food and why? Also can anyone share why her coat is so dry? Thank you all for your feedback. |

YT Addict | Mia was not wild about Royal even though the Westie Kismet adored it. I am currently feeding wellness. I am checking into an organic food that one of the ladies who lives local to here. I would think there is a store near where you live that does an all natural food with no grains or fillers that gives them all of the vitamins they need for good skin and keep that pretty coat growing. If you do a search I know there was a fairly recent discussion on this, I was one of them asking to be honest. There is a wealth of knowledge and people willing to help others as we all quest to serve the Yorkies in our lives. And congrats on your Maya. These little ones are sooo smart and absolutely loving as they quietly get us to do what they will and make us believe we thought of it first... Mary (Mia the 1 year olds mom) |

| Royal Canine is a 3 star dog food out of 5 stars... So its way better than Caesars food.... We feed EVO and Canadai...Evo is 5 star and Canadai if 4 stars..Here's a link to check out any dog foods you are using or interested in feeding. Dog Food Ratings by Brand She could be having an allergy to something in the food..

| Royal canina has corn, which constantlyyyyy made hammer scratch. We feed wellness, which I love. I feel that RC is wayyyy over priced and not much nutrition. Just didn't work for me and my pup, but I know some swear by it. To each their own. |

| I have fed Taste of the Wild for over two years and the kids love it and I am loving what it does for the kids -- nice coat, good energy level, happy healthy little bundles of love. |

| I don't personally like RC. I think it's entirely over priced for what it is. And you can get much better for a lower price. I feed Orijen Regional Red and Acana Grasslands, as well as Go! Endurance. I also feed different canned foods ranging from Canidae to Natures Variety to Castor & Pollux and Wellness, etc, etc.

| We have had good luck with Nature's Variety (Prairie formulas, mostly chicken and brown rice) and also with Blue Buffalo. |

| Dog Food I feed my 3 month old little girl a mix of Artemis Puppy and Acana - she loves it but doesnt always chew the Acana enough (it's bigger than the Artemis). Her poops are soft, so I added a tablespoon of pumpkin in the evening for dessert - she gobbles it up. So far, so good, although neither brand is easy to find. I'm hesitant to switch (thought of Blue Buffalo), but I'm sick of driving far and dont want to do the online shipping. Any suggestions?? We live in Montgomery County, PA. Also, her skin is really dry/dandruff - but I read that is pretty normal for pups until their oil glands kick in - I dont want to give her any oil by mouth because of the potential for it to affect her elimination...any thoughts?? Thanks |

| We switched from RC Puppy to Halo Spot's Stew. I'm happier with her energy level and hair growth and silkiness, but she doesn't gobble it up (but she didn't the RC either).

| Thank you all for taking the time to share your knowledge and experiences. We haven't decided on what brand to feed Maya. We are thinking; Evo or Blue Buffalo, since there seems to be so much talk about these brands. We do find it a bit confusing, so many brands! Again, thank you. |

| I read something that made me wonder if I should trust, " x food is great because now they have a shiny coat..." According to what I read, pet food manufactures add in special chemicals to the kibble to make our fur-kids' coat shine, increase their energy levels, etc., knowing that we are looking for this kind of signs to judge whether or not a food is good quality. How true do you think this is? I personally wouldn't put it past them
