| 8 Weeks & No Teeth hey everyone :] I just purchased my dream dog today, an 8 week old parti carrier yorkie boy we named Max but was wondering when his teeth will grow in. He has a few in the back but the rest are just his gums. We tried feeding him the food the breeder gave us and he licks it up and seems to swallow it whole without chewing. I just want to make sure my little guy's alright. Does anyone know when Yorkie pups are suppose to grow in their puppy teeth? |

No Longer a Member | I'm sorry but your boy should still be with his mom, I think by 8 weeks they usually have most of their teeth in, or they have at least broken the skin, but it sounds like you were taken advantage of. You probably have a 5-6 week old pup, which in most states it is illegal to sell a puppy that young. He should be with his mom until about 12 weeks of age for maximum training benefits. You would see less nipping, and he might even potty train quicker. If he is not able to eat the food, offer him some wet food. You are going to need to check on him every 1-2 hours for the next few weeks (even at night, so set an alarm) as the younger they are taken from mom, and the smaller they are, the more likely they are to develop hypoglycemia. If he starts to shake, or just start acting really lethargic give him some Nutrical (you can get it at petsmart and should have it on hand at all times). I'm sorry that the byb you got your pup through took advantage of you and gave you a pup that was entirely too young to leave his mom. You have a tough couple of months ahead of you, and definetly the next few weeks are really going to be trying. Take him to the vet ASAP to have him health checked (DO NOT VACCINATE YET) check out the health and diet section, and do some reading in the breeder section to help you gain some more information that will be able to provide more insight that I can. Good luck. |

| I think hes younger than 8 weeks also. I have 8 wk old kittens and they have their teeth and are eating hard food. Both of my yorkies also had their teeth at that age

| I agree with all that Deuce wrote to you!! What a shame people are so greedy & want to get their money in a hurry, that they make a pup leave so early! 12 weeks & 2 pounds should be a minimum for letting them go to their new homes. I wound probably be leery about the "parti-carrier" part too! When a breeder shows irresponsibility in one area, I tend to doubt everything about them.

| I agree with what has already been posted. I personally believe your pup isn't 8 weeks old. Even if he is 8 weeks old, he should still be with his mom & littermates. Do you have your initial vet visit scheduled yet? I would express my concerns about Max not having any teeth. Perhaps the vet can give you an idea if he/she believes your pup is indeed 8 weeks old or if you have been lied to. Keep us updated, please!

| The more I thought about ths the more it bothered me and I came back and reread what you wrote -- this puppy has molars through the skin but no other teeth breaking skin? Is that what you said? Seems unusual! Have you taken him to the vet for his initial check up yet? I would do that asap and ask about the teeth. I don't know of any condition where the front teeth don't come in, but maybe someone else does. I am trying to give some benefit of the doubt to the breeder just in case. But a breeder who would let a Yorkie pup go at 8 weeks, might take other short cuts too. So, I am still thinking that as myfirst instinct. Still, want to be sure there is nothing wrong with the pup that the front teeth are not coming in. They normally come in before the molars.

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | At first I thought the same as most of the members here who replied, I thought no way is that pup 8 weeks old with no teeth. Poppy has her teeth in at 8 weeks. But then I read FlDebra's reply and it made me think... Poppy DID get her front teeth in before her back teeth so this seems really strange. You should take the pup to the vet anyway for a check up but I would get him to take a look at the teeth too. Also what makes this BYB believe your pup is a parti carrier? is one of his parents a parti yorkie? or does he just have white patches on his chest? If both parents are standard yorkies and this pup has a white patch on its chest or feet this does not mean he is a parti carrier. Just wondering because if this BYB would give away a pup under 12 weeks old with teething problems then what else are they not telling you?

| His first vet check up is today and i called the breeder earlier and left a message she said if we have any problems she would just give us another pup since the other pup has it's teeth. He already had his first vaccinations signed off before i bought him. He's a pretty big pup, he seems pudgy almost at about over a pound and a half but i am pretty concerned now. Ill let you guys know if i find out anything. His birthday is september 18 2010 which is about 8 1/2 weeks. It says so on his Akc paper work and its what the breeder said but you never know i guess. I felt in the back of his mouth. He has 2 teeth in the back but none in the front yet that i can see. i feel some right under his gums though. I hope he'll be alright! Heres a pic of my little man. |
