| OK to leave at home day after neuter? We're planning to have Connor neutered tomorrow AM. Barring any complications, we should have him back home tomorrow evening. We have to be out of town for a few hours the next day (due to Dr. appt.), but won't be gone all day. We plan to put Conner in his ex-pen to keep him seperated from Neo. Do you think he'll be OK, or do you think we should wait and take him in later? I'd really like some input, please! |

| I only have experience with one dog being neutered, but personally, I would error on the side of caution and not leave the dog unsupervised the day after surgery. Depending on the dog, a playpen may not be enough to keep him from being too active, and from doing something to the incision. He may need pain meds administered while you are gone. |

| Thanks for your response. You make perfect sense, especially about the pain meds! I just made his appointment for Wednesday morning, instead. I'll have time to get him to the vet and get to the Dr. appointment, after all. I was told that they may keep him overnite- just in case he was "done" later in the day. I don't mind, whatever is best for my "little" boy! |

| I did give Ben pain meds the day after as he was still crying a little here and there, especially when he moved around. I kept the other dogs away from him so they would not jar him. I also caried him out to potty and pretty much made over him all day. He is my big baby and seemed to really need all the extra attention. He also had dental done, and a few teeth pulled. So that might have made it a lot worse for him. My Candy (small Jack Russell) acted like normal the very next day after her spay. Needed no help, no whining at all, she is one tough girl. My only problem was keeping her from being too active. So, it may depend on the dog. If he is acting okay, the night of his surgery, you can gauge by that. I knew my Ben did not need to be left that first day after. His incision looked very good and never did get red or ooze. But he just was not ready to be on his own. But by the next day he was pretty good and the 3rd day he was just about like normal. So, even my baby healed pretty fast.
