| Reaction to the Vaccination! I took Ella to the vet yesterday and she received her Rabies, 2nd Distemper and a dewormer (which the vet said, "Well, it won't hurt her if she doesn't have any worms") About 15 minutes after her shots she started scratching her face and ears on anything. I started driving back to the vet immediatley and she threw up three times on the way over. Went I arrived he said she was breathing fine and gave me some antihistamine to give her a couple doses of. He said it was common in small breeds (Ella is 2 lbs 7 oz) because of their size. (I would have been more then willing to go back then next day if it would have prevented this!) She is much better now, but I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem? If it actually is common? I don't want her to have to go through that everytime! Thank you so much! |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! Yes, it's very common in small dogs, and to prevent it from occuring, many vets give the DHPP at one visit and the Rabies 3-4 weeks later. Surprises me that he didn't do it this way to begin with, knowing it is common in small dogs. See the YT Library: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-overview.html You'll find some more vaccine related articles there too. She may now have reactions in the future, so I would find a vet willing to do a minimal vaccine protocol with her to be on the safe side. How old is Ella?

| Thank you for your response and welcoming me to YorkieTalk! I'm relieved, in a way, it's not unusual. I wish he would have spread them out. I'm glad you linked the thread about vaccinations, I just learned a lot of information I will absolutley need to know! Ella is almost 13 weeks. |

| Why did she get her Rabies so early? I think 4-6 months is more the norm?

I checked and Maine doesn't require dogs to have rabies vaccinations until six months. I wonder why your vet gave it to her so early? Maine Consolidated Dog Laws | |
