| When should a yorkie get spay? Should I get her rabies shot and spay at the same time She's getting two shot and spay all together, is that bad to do it all at once? She'll be 6 months in August. |

| What shots is she getting? If it were me...I wouldn't get them all at one time. The way I do with my girls is Distemper/parvo shot at one time and then their rabies 2 or 3 weeks later...then I waited about a month before getting them spayed. You don't want to overtax their system or take a chance on causing any health issues by doing too much at once. |

| I wouldn't do shots at the same time as spay, and I wouldn't use a vet that did, either...My vet, absolutely, would not do that... |

| Doing them on a different day is safer. She would be going through enough with just the spay. And if they are given on the same day (which again is not the best plan), they should be given after she wakes up from surgery, not while under anesthesia. Also, the DHP and rabies really should be split up too (given on different days).

| I wouldn't do it at the same time. It isn't unusual for the rabies vaccine to cause lethargy, and couple that with the pain meds they give after spay, I would never want to subject a dog to both at once. You wouldn't know if she was having a bad reaction to the rabies shot, or if she was under the influence of the pain meds, it would be so difficult to tell what the heck was going on if she had problems. Then, if she had an allergic reaction to the rabies shot, on top of all those other things they would have to give her benedryl .... I would find another vet if I were you.

| Please, don't get any shots and an operation at the same time. Do the Rabies first since generally they do need their shots before any operation, then wait a few weeks to see if all goes well first.

| Personally, I would not have shots and spay done together. She probably has to have rabie shot first to do the surgery. I would wait a week or two then spay and when healed up then the other shots.

| Thanks for all the info (: But sadly when I called all the vet. They all said the same thing that it doesn't matter to do it together or separately. I got her shot yesterday, and scheduling an appointment for her spaying next week, is that okay? |
