Sick puppy?

Hello.

I have a 8 week old puppy who lays on his side and twitches his legs and body sometimes.
If he is fed food he acts tired but okay. Gets up and wags his tail.
Is he sick?

Are you the breeder? Since he is only 8 weeks old he should still be with him momma at this point. Have you taken him to the vet and what have they told you? Puppies should not fall over and shake. When was the last time that he did this and how is he now? If this has just happened you need to get to an ER vet. He is very tiny and when they are little like that you could easily lose him This is very concerning and want to stress to you that puppies do not fall over and shake--EVER!

Although I know better now, I also got my pup very young. Precious sometimes laid on her side and had puppy nighmares and would shake. She never "fell over" and your post doesn't specify her falling over. I would make an appointment with the vet or call a 24 hour clinic with any concern. My vet put my baby on High-Cal twice a day til she's 4 pounds. She's almost 10 weeks old now and only 2.5 lbs. Precious also shook when she was cold and since she was young and probably not good at regulating her body temp I kept a tee on her. I do that less now than I did before.

Yes I am a long time breeder of yorkshire terriers.
THis puppy is also in my care.

So what you are seeing is not a doggy dreaming but he's shaking? I'm sorry that I misread that he was falling over when he did this. My guess would be hypoglecimia but if you are a breeder then you would know about this. What has the vet said? It does not seem right to me at all. Is it like a seizure? Is he really tiny? I'm not a vet but I have heard of puppies with a shunt doing this as well.

Ummm? The only advice that I gave to you was to go to a vet. I'm wondering if you might be referring to someone else that has given a bunch of advice in the sick forum to someone else that lived in your area. I do not breed and I surely am not a vet and would never give advice regarding medical issues. There is someone that give a lot of advice that probably should be given.

I am a foster home with Yorkie Haven and that is about what my "specialty" is regarding yorkies. I've help people who have issues with their rescues but never anything medical.

Maybe you should consult your vet and not look for answers here. Some of us are breeders however, all of us are lovers of the breed and give support however we can. If you are a longtime breeder you know the answer..if you don't know what is wrong with your baby consult a professional. Good luck to you and you baby

I am not a breeder, nor am I a vet. You were given some terrific Information and yet you come back with a wise azz comment. Take the pup to the vet, and perhaps consider getting out of the breeding business. I would not want a pup from you. However, I do hope you get the pup looked at.

I don't come here looking for medical advice, just because of what you said. Many people give advice they should not give but hey, this is the internet.
I say, go to your vet and stop asking for advice from lay people.

You go, Steve! I don't understand people who ask advice and then when given it, bites the giver's head off. I think if she is much of a breeder, then I think she would have already consulted with a vet, JMO.

YOU came here and asked a question. if you don't want people answering it then don't ask.

She told you to go to a vet and get the puppy checked out. A long time breeder of the yorkshire terrier should know the signs of a sick puppy and know to take it to the vet immediately.

puppies do not typically lay on their side and shake and if you don't know that then your definitely not a breeder i'd want to get a puppy from.
