| Ticks? Pixie got her first tick, and I use advantix on her. It was in her skin down by her private area. Is this normal that a tick can still go in her? I noticed she was licking a lot and I looked and I could not believe my eyes the lil bugger was in her skin. Is there anything else I can use when she is outdoors?

| I never had good results with K-9 Advantix. Brody was constantly picking up a flea or 2 when he was on it. Also, K-9 Advantix made him itchy when I used to apply it . . .we switched to Frontline Plus and we use half the application on Brody and half on Rhianna . . .we've never had an issue with it and it doesn't make them itchy at the application spot. From thier own website: Prevent ticks from attaching. K9 Advantix offers proven protection against ticks. It repels and kills ticks before they can attach. With K9 Advantix, ticks are repelled and killed before they can bite, reducing the potential risk of a tick-transmitted disease. K-9 Advantix says it repels fleas, ticks and mosquitos, but apparently since poor little Pixie had a tick, it doesn't . . .

| Oh, and I almost forgot . . .when I was using the K-9 Advantix even though it said it was good if the dog got wet or had a bath, I found that wasn't the case, which made me believe that the reason he was getting fleas was because after bathing him every week, the potency wore off. I think it would be a better product for a dog that didn't get bathed weekly like mine because we also had a staffordshire terrier when we first got Brody and had no problems with her on the K-9 Advantix but I was only bathing her once a month.

| I use Frontline Plus on Piper. We live in a wooded area, she's outside often and I walk her everyday on trails near the marshes. I check Piper every night and I do find ticks but most of the time they aren't attached, just walking through her hair. The ticks will still go on the dog but they usually don't feed and drop off. That's the bad part. I'll find ticks walking across the floor, on the furniture and in my bed if I miss one during our nightly search. Ticks are the worse in the spring and the fall.

| I hate those nasty lil buggers!! Daisy doesn't get bathed every week bc her skin gets too dry. and you are probably right that is why they stay on her. Pixie gets bathed weekly! I am going to use frontline.

| Jackson got sooo many ticks on Frontline. Over 10 in a few weeks. So we switched to K9 Advantix and haven't had ONE tick since (to my knowledge). I will never go back to Frontline. Ticks are gross little suckers. I hate them! I also bath Jackson in Minksheen, which contains insect repellent, so that may help a bit as well. From my understanding, Frontline will kill ticks that get on them but they will still attach. Advantix is supposed to repel them a little bit better, it also repels mosquitoes which Frontline does not. But I think certain areas may become immune in a sense. I heard stories of Frontline not being effective on ticks anymore because so many ppl use it... so I dunno how true that is.

| The reason why Advantix claims to also "repel" ticks, etc.. Is because it contains: Permethrin Permethrin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Permethrin is NOT something I would use on my dogs. My Vet will NOT even carry any products containing Permethrin in it. |
